Always firet stop the p.t.o. shaft and pull the universal shaft off the p.t.o. shaft before work is carried out on the moving parts of the machine. When driving on public roads, the universal shaft must always be fitted on the tractor p.t.o. shaft. Never try to pull hay or straw out of the pick-up unit or the feed opening while the machine is running. Always stop the p.t.o. shaft first. While work is in progress, only the driver should be on the tractor. Passengers sre not allowed on the baler. Do not climb on the drawbar or other parts of the baler when the latter is in operation. Also keep your distance from the pick-up unit. Keep your hands away from the working area of the feed members. All protective guards must be mounted on the baler and in sound con- dition. Before opening the guards, stop the p.t.o. shaft and the tractor engine and wait until the machine has stopped. After opening the guards stop them with supports to keep them open. Stop the baler before threading the needle, move the safety latch on the tripping mechanism to the position “Aus" ("off"). Block road wheels with chocks when the baler is parked on a slope. Always carry chocks with you on the baler. Approved Usage The pick-up baler nay be employed only for normal agricultural usage (approved usage). Any other usage is not regarded as approved usage. No liability will be accepted by the manufacturer for resulting damage, the user muat accept responsibility for all risks taken. Approved usage includes strict adherence to the manufacturer’s operating and maintenance instructions, as well as the fitting of original apare parts. The pick-up baler may be operated, serviced and repaired only by persons trained in these duties and instructed on the possible hazards The mounting of extra equipment is not permitted except at pointe specified by the manufacturer. The ruling accident prevention code, as well all other applicable vegulations concerning safety and health and the road traffic code should be observed at all times. The manufacturer does not accept liability for any damage resulting from arbitrary changes made to the machine or from the installation of unrecognized spare parts and equipment. Wire Tying Threading the Wire Use only top quality (branded) wire. Wire coils should be neatly and evenly wound. Before fitting coils, immerse them in oil to complete saturation. Switch off motor and p.t.o., wait until all parts have fully run out. As shown in fig. 52, the wire box takes 2 coils, 2 spare coils can be placed in the compartment behind the packer box. Fit coils while still closed, turns running clockwise. Do not tangle the winding turns when cutting the straps. Pull inner wire ends out through holes in box. Avoid kinks and loops, or faulty tying may result. Thread wire as indicated in fig. 53, which shows the run of the wire as seen from below: Wire A Through wire guide tube 1, round guide roller 2, between track rollers 3, over needle head 4 to wire hook 5. Carefully tie end of wire A to hook 5. Wire B: Through wire guide tube 6, over guide roller 2, round guide roller 7, between track rollers 8, over needle head 3 to wire hook 10. Carefully tie end of wire B to hook 10. Pulling the Wire into the Tiers Trip tiers as shown in fig. 10 (Operat- ing Manual AP 630). Turn flywheel in direction of arrow (fig. 11, Operating Manual AP 630) until needles have moved up and down and the tiers have taken up the wire. Pull wire ends from hooke 5 and 10 (fig. 53). Servicing and Lubrication Treat wire coils with care and immerse them in oil before storing then for any length of time. Regularly check that all wire guide rollers move easily, grease as required. Thoroughly lubricate twister drive chain 11 (fig. 54) at frequent intervals. Chain tension is automatically set by tension spring 12 and roller 13. If chain 11 is removed proceed as follows: Before re-fitting the chain, re-set twister hook as in fig. 60. Inspect edges of shear plete 14 and shear bar 15 (fig. 55) for blunting or wear. Both are double-edged and can be turned round once before needing a re- grind. Remove protector cap out of deflector bar 16. Slacken nut 17 and bolts 18 and 19, remove deflector bar 16 and shear bar 15. Turn shear bar 15 round and re-assemble with deflector bar 16. Slacken bolts 20, turn shear plate 14 round and re-fit. Finally fit shear bar 15 with deflector bar 16 again and secure it. IMPORTANT: Note position and sequence of shins 21 and re-fit them in original ar- rangenent. Needle brake setting and needle drive protection see pages 13 and 14 (Operat- ing Manual AP 630). Regularly check distances A - D (pages 3 and 4 of this extra leaflet), correct as necessary. Wire Tier Timing Check timing after all repairs to ran, packer and knotter drive, needle drive and knotter assembly. Distances A - D must be restored after repairs. If they are not correct, re-set (on both sides, if necessary). Adjusting the Needles Pull off wire and start the tying cycle (see page 5 in Operating Manual AP 630). Turn flywheel to raise needles to top- most position (see fig. 11 in Operating Manual AP 630). CAUTION: Never turn flywheel in reverse with the knottera tripped! Distance A between needle and twister hook shaft should lie between 0 to 2 mm (fig. 56). If it is greater, take off needie and re-shape. IMPORTANT: Re-shape only slightly bent needles and take care to restore origi- nal shapet Distance B between needle roller and shear lever should now be 3 - 8 mm (fig. 56). If distance B is less: slacken bolts 1 (fig. 57), turn out bolt 2 and run down bolt 3 to set needle height. Secure bolt 2 and tighten bolt 1 again. If distance B is exceeded: slacken bolts 1, set needle height by turning out bolt 3 and running down bolt 2. Then secure bolt 3 and tighten bolts 1 again. Having correctly set distance B, dis- tance C from the needle head to the twister hook shaft should be 80 - 100 mm with the needles in their highest posi- tion (fig. 58). If not, adjust the length of the needle lift rod (see Operating Manual AP 630). Adjusting the Shear Lever Note that the shear lever 4 clamps down the wire alternately on left and right (fig. 59). If the wire is clamped down too weakly, watch the baler at work to see on which lever side the wire is pulled away by the bales as they form. Let the machine run on until the needle hes once again placed the wire on that side of the lever 4 where it is not held firmly enough. Now stop the machine and slacken locknut 5 (or 6), run down set screw 7 (or 8) by % to 1 full turn until the wire is held firmly, then secure again with nut 5 (or @. Twister Hook Setting Align marking holes (see arrow in fig. 60) on both chain wheels on the match- ing bore holes underneath, then lock chain wheels with a 4 mm dia pin through the bore holes. Fit chain over correctly located wheels. Setting Knotter Shaft Lock With the needles at rest, leaf spring 9 should engage without play on the lower stop of ratchet 10 (fig. 61). If necessary, slacken bolt 11 (fig. 62), then shift spring 9 all the way against the lower stop on ratchet 10, finally secure setting with bolt 11. Setting Needles to Ram If new needles have been fitted, adjust these first (see “Adjusting the Need- les"). Trip the tier as in fig. 10 (Operating Manual AP 630). Slacken the clamping washer on the gear 19 and shift gear 19 in the direction of the arrow (fig. 63) until it is no longer engaged with the tier drive wheel 25. Turn the tier drive wheel in the direction of the arrow until the tip of the needle 14 (fig. 64) is aligned flush with the upper edge of the base plate 15. Block the tier drive wheel 25, turn the flywheel in the direction of the arrow (fig. 11) until the ram tip 16 clears the needle point 14 by approx. 25 mm on its working stroke. In this position re- engage the gear 19 (fig. 63) with the tier drive wheel 25. If the gear 19 will not engage in the recommended position, then remove the plastic caps from the hex. shaft guard in the twine box and the side wall of the packer. Block the packer and the flywheel in doing thie the setting “packer to ram" must not be altered. Slacken the clamping washer on the bevel gear wheel 20 (fig. 63). Re- move the Seeger circlip ring 31 (fig. 27, Operating Manuel AP 630) from the hexagonal cross shaft 21. Withdraw hexagonal cross shaft 21 from the bevel gear wheel 20, so that the gear 19 (fig. 63) can be pulled off the hex. cross shaft 21 and pushed on again with a displacement of 1/6 turn. I£ the toothing of the wheels does not fit together then repeat this procedure, turning gear 19 in the same direction until it is correctly engaged with the tier drive wheel 25. Push the hex. cross shaft 21 back into the bevel gear wheel 20. Tighten up clamping washers on the gear 19 and bevel gear wheel 20. Remount the Seeger circlip ring 31 on the hex. cross shaft 21 (fig. 27, Operating Manual AP 630). Replace the plastic caps into the bore holes for the hex. cross shaft. Remove all blocking devices. With the ram in this position check distance D (fig. 64): Distance from the needle point 14 to the ram tip 16 must be 25 - 40 mm.
