1 State three different applications that make use of loudspeakers.
Suggested examples:
To output music from the computer.
To output instructions to disabled users of the computer.
To output documents with text to speech.
For voice overs in a presentation.
An audio track for a video.

2. A large music concert will make use of a giant LED display.


(a) State one other type of technology that could be used in a home
computer display.
LCD display / Liquid crystal display (1)
(b) Explain two reasons why LED displays are suited to large display systems
in music concerts.
Smaller LED modules can be fitted together (1) which enables a very large screen /
custom shaper to be built (1).
The screens are very bright (1) so can be viewed in daylight (1).
Musicians will be able to perform directly in front of the screen (1) without casting a
shadow (1).
Whilst LED displays have very large pixels (1) at a distance, these will appear as a
clear image. (1)

3. A cinema is building a new premium screen. At the start of the film, curtains will
automatically open to reveal the screen. Speakers have already been fitted in the room.
(a) State two other output devices that need to be fitted.
Digital light processing/DLP projector (1) OR Liquid crystal display/LCD projector (1)
Do not accept LCD screen as this wouldn’t be bright or large enough for a cinema.
Actuator(s) (1)
(b) The ticket machines at the entrance of the cinema allow users to print their own
tickets. Explain a suitable type of screen that could be used.
LCD/Liquid crystal display screen (1).
The technology is cheaper to produce. (1)
They are less likely to have screen burn (which is important for a screen which may
display the same information for a long time). (1)
LED/Light emitting diode screen. (1)
It has better contrast / sharper image. (1)
It is more energy efficient. (1)
1 mark for the technology.
1 mark for the reason why it should be used. Accept other suitable reasons.
