Text 2 is a comic Strip Du Australian political cartoonist Andrew Marlton addresses the 2015 NASA's

discovery that water had been found on Mars and concern about its contamination by the Mars Rover. It
is mocking humans carelessness as they develop discoveries while disregarding the negative effects, in
addition to human efforts to supply enough water and adequate sanitation for people on Earth. This
comic seems to be targeted towards the general public, or societies who lead to the damage of other
planets along their home planet. Moreover, Marion criticizes the wasted human resources and brings
light to the harsh reality of human priorities through the employment of irony anthropomorphism and
juxtaposition.

Initially, the tone is scientific but words such as "science" reminds the reader that this is a comic strip
and create a more humorous mood. This scientific tone further shifts to a sarcastic one. The author
utilizes a sarcastic tone to mock NASAs discovery and bring awareness to the worlds water and
sanitation problems. Another way Marlton portrays this sarcastic tone is by using exclamation marks
after phrases such as They found running water on Mars ! Amazing I" As a result, there is a false
sensation of enthusiasm because the finding doesn't appear to be extremely intriguing. The rhetorical
question “We can send a spaceship to Mars, but we can’t clean the Mars Rover - or the Earth for that
mattes ? add to the irony and allows for an engagement with the readers regarding the unpleasant
truths shown. Marlton employs irony as a tool for undermining the readers naivety by effectively
exposing in unpleasant reality where they are placed in an unsustainable situation. Another instance is
the author saying “Here's a fun fact" before starting a disturbing fact, and the last panel , in which
Marlton presents a checklist- of accomplishments to mock humans by emphasizing their poor choices by
asserting how "amazing” humans are and mockingly guiding the readers to honor “what we can do” at
the bottom, there is a phrase saying choose not to " positioned below the panel which shows how
people have the ability to solve their problems but choose not to due to the different set of priorities ,
which the author doesn’t agree with.

The anthropomorphism enables the dog to symbolize the irresponsibility of human behavior shifting the
tone from curiosity to annoyance that such an issue has yet to be solved. The speech bubble from both
dogs in the first panel, "They found running water on Mars !" demonstrates this, with "they" referring to
humans. The animals in the white coats in the third panel could represent animals who are being used
because of human desires. They emphasize the fact that they are exposed to scientific discoveries based
on animal cruelty. The speech bubbles in the third panel, where one says " You won't believe this! and
the other replies with "Try me”…, support this understanding. Furthermore, their facial expressions
reflect fear and disgust with what is to happen. The anthropomorphic animals and their symbolism are
employed to illustrate the absurd reality of human priorities which affects readers sensibilities and
makes them feel inferior. The dog is holding a water battle while staring at a screen reading about the
global bottled water industry’s annual earrings , obvious thar a poor dog stands next to him, holding a
hottie over if head. The human characters of being ego-centrical and uncaring is prominently displayed.
The thought of dogs imitating and mocking humans w ironic, giving the widespread view that humans
are the cleverest on the planet. The reader is put in a position to acknowledge how dumb human
priorities are.

The text is written in a comical style of writing, that appears as descriptions in the title, voiceover in
each panel, and dialogue that is readable in white. The texts overall tone is conversational , with
uplifting concepts like "Its so exciting" and " You won't believe Mis!" juxtaposed with a sarcastic tone
like "they can't even send" "if that wasn't enough excitement" and "try me “ . The characters add a fun
fact in the concluding panel and is "pretty much an environmental disaster" These imply that the
author's viewpoints more global than humanities. In addition, the authors intent, based the
juxtaposition of mese facts, appears to be to startle readers into action. The speech bubble that shows
the dogs response to the news, "I wonder what else we could get for $200 billion" then me arrangement
of the list conveys mat the necessary items of water and e sanitation are so low on me priority list that
they haven’t been completed not withstanding their simplicity particularly in comparison to travelling to
Mars.

To conclude, Marlon addresses a recent news incident in a scientific manner, outlining the discovery
but also exploring the larger concerns and consequences that surround it in order to uncover the text's
actual meaning. He highlights the importance of providing sanitation and clean water on a worldwide
scale, while the ignorance and foolishness of human priorities are mocked.
