Activity 1: The Human Breathing System

Based on the figure below, check your understanding on the different parts of the human breathing system
by identifying each part and giving its functions. Write your answers on a given manila paper.

ASSESSMENT:
1. What does each part of the “Bunch of Grapes” model represent, in relation to the breathing system?

2. How will you describe the pathway of oxygen in the breathing system?

3. What will happen if one part of the system fails to carry out its function properly?
Activity 2: Bottled Balloons

Procedure:
1. Pull the rubber glove down; that is, away from the bottle, in order to blow up the two small balloons.
2. Push the rubber glove towards the bottle in order to let the air out of the two small balloons.

Assessment:
1. What does each part of the constructed lung model represent?

2. What happens as you pull down the balloon at the bottom of the model?

3. What happens as you push up the balloon?

4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause the air to go in and out of the lungs?

5. What might happen if you prick the balloon?

Activity 3: Go with the flow!

Below is a simplified path of the blood flow inside our body. You are asked to identify first the parts of the
heart indicated by A-D. Also, name the two arrows labelled as E and F which represents the pathways. By
looking at the diagram, fill in the blanks on How blood flows through the heart. Write your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

How blood flows through the heart?

Blood from the body travels into the (A)______, moves into the (C)______, and is finally pushed into the
lungs in the pulmonary (E)________. The blood then picks up oxygen and travels back to the heart into the
(B)__________ through the pulmonary (F)_______. Then it travels through to the (D)_________ and exits
the body through the aorta.

Assessment
1. Explain how you think your heart and lungs work together.

2. What happens when you breathe in and out?

3. What does blood deliver?

4. Why is oxygen important to your body?

5. Describe the sequence of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and blood flow in your own words.
Activity 4: Let’s Organize!

Using the graphic organizer below, FILL IN the missing parts, description, and functions to complete the
entire concept. Write your answers on a given manila paper.
