Intercultural Competence Case Study

1. Which of the five intercultural competency imperatives—demographic, technical, global,


peaceful, or interpersonal—is the most effective in motivating you to do so? Explain.
- My greatest motivation to increase my intercultural proficiency is the demographic
imperative. I reside in a nation where people from various cultures coexist. The
United States of America is seen as an immigrant nation, and it is becoming more and
more diversified. People come to us from all over the world, and they bring their
culture, language, celebrations, and beliefs with them.

Why do civilizations vary? What maintains cultural distinctions, in the authors' opinion of your
textbook?
The authors of the textbook list six forces that both produce and preserve cultural differences. As
follows:

History: History is the unique experiences that make up a culture's common understandings. The
growth and preservation of a culture are influenced by the particular history of that culture.
Every culture has a unique past, which also causes the cultures to be unique from one another.
People talk about their historical occurrences, and the knowledge is passed down from
generation to generation. The elements of a culture are led and their collective behavior is guided
by the shared knowledge of history.

2. Ecology: Ecology is the environment a culture resides in on the outside. Such an atmosphere
has an impact on how a culture is created and developed. Because the climate and environment
are an unavoidable and constant influence, the consequences of a culture's ecology are typically
veiled from its members. Additionally, environmental and geographic factors including weather
patterns, topography, climate, natural resources, and a lack of access to water or food contribute
to the disparities amongst people.
