ANECDOTES

Two years ago I (1)______________ (SUFFER) a series of unfortunate events that

(2)____________ (END) with me on the sofa for 9 months. And no, I didn’t get a baby
in the end!
One night I was with my friends in Alqueria Blanca. Most of the town (3)___________
(GATHER) together to cook paellas, and so had we. While some of my friends
(4)____________ (KEEP) an eye on our paella, I (5)___________ (SIT) on the top part
of a seesaw talking with my friend Roberto. My husband was sitting down on the
other side, talking to somebody else. We (6)__________ (NOT PLAY), we were just
sitting there. At one time though, my husband (7)___________ (DECIDE) to pull the
typical seesaw prank: he (8)__________ (SLAM) me to the ground. Unfortunately for
me, I (9)____________ (NOT PAY) attention to him so I didn’t have the time to bend
my knees to soften the impact. As a souvenir from the fall, I got two little fractures on
the left side of my hip. But that was not the end of it… I (10)___________ (HAVE
/NEVER/EVER) a fracture and yet, somehow, I was sure they were supposed to hurt
more (the fall was painful, don’t get me wrong), so I didn’t go to the doctor. The next
morning, I was showing Santanyí’s market to my friend Roberto when a man
suddenly (11)___________ (PUSH) me and I almost fell again. I said almost because
to stop myself from falling, I sent all my weight to my left leg (the one with the two
still-unknown-to-me fractures). Just my luck! Nevertheless, my stubbornness, or lack
of common sense, (12)___________ (KEEP) me once more from going to the doctor.
Instead, two days later I (13)___________ (BOARD) a plane to Northern Ireland
where, as you can imagine, I didn’t stay put. For ten days, I wandered around the
streets of quaint little towns and (14)___________ (HIKE) the lush Irish hills. Back in
Mallorca, my friends tried to convince me to go and see a doctor because I was
noticeably limping. I didn’t listen to them; I (15)____________ (ALREADY/START)
working and I had exams to correct. After two weeks of work, my colleagues advised
me to listen to my friends. My limping was way worse by then, so I gave in and saw
an orthopedic surgeon who prescribed immediate and non-negotiable rest. Thank
God I didn’t have to undergo surgery…and Netflix (16)__________ (LAUNCH/JUST) in
Spain.
KEY

Two years ago I suffered a series of unfortunate events that ended with me on the
sofa for 9 months. And no, I didn’t get a baby in the end!
One night I was with my friends in Alqueria Blanca. Most of the town had gathered
together to cook paellas, and so had we. While some of my friends were keeping an
eye on our paella, I was sitting on the top part of a seesaw talking with my friend
Roberto. My husband was sitting down on the other side, talking to somebody else.
We were not playing, we were just sitting there. At one time though, my husband
decided to pull the typical seesaw prank: he slammed me to the ground.
Unfortunately for me, I was not paying attention to him so I didn’t have the time to
bend my knees to soften the impact. As a souvenir from the fall, I got two little
fractures on the left side of my hip. But that was not the end of it… I had never, ever,
had a fracture and yet, somehow, I was sure they were supposed to hurt more (the
fall was painful, don’t get me wrong), so I didn’t go to the doctor. The next morning, I
was showing Santanyí’s market to my friend Roberto when a man suddenly pushed
me and I almost fell again. I said almost because to stop myself from falling, I sent all
my weight to my left leg (the one with the two still-unknown-to-me fractures). Just
my luck! Nevertheless, my stubbornness, or lack of common sense, kept me once
more from going to the doctor. Instead, two days later I boarded a plane to Northern
Ireland where, as you can imagine, I didn’t stay put. For ten days, I wandered around
the streets of quaint little towns and hiked the lush Irish hills. Back in Mallorca, my

I didn’t listen to them; I had already started working and I had exams to correct. After

way worse by then, so I gave in and saw an orthopedic surgeon who prescribed
immediate and non-negotiable rest. Thank God I didn’t have to undergo surgery…and
Netflix had just been launched in Spain.
