Identify the parts of brain that are more active than usual in the following situations and explain why.

1. Anne the layout artist is standing at her easel, painting with her right hand as she looks out the
window at her garden. She’s listening to classical music as she paints.

- Listening to music activates the Temporal Lobe. While moving her hands, she is using the Cerebellum.
While Anne is looking out the window, her brain activates the Occipital Lobe. The Frontal Lobe activates
while Anne makes a painting decision.

2. Crazy Eddie, the professional wrestler, is in the ring wrestling. The crowd is yelling, and his opponent
is taunting him. Eddie yells back at his opponent. The two of them are out of breath and sweating
profusely. They continue their well-orchestrated series of wrestling moves.

- The parts of the brain that are part of all this activity are the Medulla - heavy breathing, Temporal lobe
- listening to the crowd yelling, Cerebellum - wrestling, Occipital lobe- eyesight, Frontal lobe -
judgement, Parietal lobe - a sense of touch, orientation.

3. Jill is a law student studying for exam. She is reading about violent rape and murder cases. She is
snacking on popcorn and drinking coffee

- Jill activates her Hippocampus for remembering and learning, Amygdala Anger, and fear about cases.
Angular gyrus activates for reading, Frontal lobe for decision making and attention, Hypothalamus
regulates hunger and thirst.
