ALEXANORA Vinca 27502 AMMUNITION WARNING! Use only original, high quality commercially manufactured ammunition in good condition. Use only ammunition of the caliber for which of the caliber for which your pistol is cham- bered, The proper caliber is permanently en- grayed on the slide or the barrel; never attempt to use ammunition of any other caliber. Al- ‘ways use ammunition that complies with the industry performance standards established by The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI) of the United States. NOTE The use of handloaded, reloaded or other non-standard ammunition voids all warranties. Handloading is a science and improperly handloaded, reloaded, or other non-standard ammunition can be very dangerous. Damage to the firearm and serious injury to the shoot- er of to others may result, AMMUNITION SPECIFICATIONS Walther PP, PPK and PPK/S pistols are designed to use cartridges with bullet weights and muzzle velocities as indicated below. While other cart- ridges may function in these pistols, it is possible that prolonged usage of ammunition which dif- fers from these specifications may cause mal- functions or damage the firearm. in addition, use of non-standard, re-loaded or handloaded ammunition voids all warranties. Trigger ‘The Walther models PP, PPK and PPK/S are semi- automatic (self-loading) pistols incorporating a selective double-action trigger mechanism. The three models are mechanically similar, differing primarily in barrel length. The arrow indicates the Loaded Chamber Sig- nal Pin. When the pin protrudes from the rear of the slide, it warns that a cartridge is in the cham- ber. PP, PPK and PPK/S pistols chambered for .22 Long Rifle are not equipped with a signal pin because of the rimfire design of the cart- ridge. You may determine if a cartridge is the chamber of .22 LR caliber pistols by pull- ing the slide back slightly and visually checking for the presence of a loaded round. The manual and automatic safeties and double- action trigger features of the Walther PP, PPK and PPK/S are among the most advanced and CUT-AWAY VIEW efficient ever designed. But no safety mechanism, however positive, can protect against careless- ness, improper usage, or “horseplay"”. Similarly, breakage or malfunctions from abuse, improper assembly, or unauthorized adjustment can defeat any mechanical device. THE WALTHER PP, PPK AND PPK/S SAFETY SYSTEM Walther PP, PPK and PPK/S pistols are excep- tionally well-equipped with A) a manual safety, B) an automatic safety, and C) two other safety features, A) The manual safety is a lever on the left side of the slide. It is “ON” when the lever is turned fully down to cover the red dot; it is “OFF” when the lever is turned up to the horizontal position, exposing the red dot. When turned “ON", the safety lever: 1) locks the firing pin so that it cannot move forward to strike the primer of a cartridge in the chamber, 2) shields the rear of the firing pin against contact from the hammer, and 3) safely uncocks the hammer (or, if the hammer is already uncocked, prevents the hammer from being cocked). 8) The automatic safety consists of an internal hammer block which prevents the hammer from moving fully forward to reach the firing pin. It isindependent of the manual safety, and is auto- matically engaged except when the hammer is cocked, or when the trigger is pulled fully r ward. €) The two additional safety features are: 1) the Loaded Chamber Signal Pin, exclusive of caliber .22 LR models, (see page mmm), which can be seen in daylight, or felt in darkness, and which indicates whether a cartridge is present in the chamber: 2) the Disconnector, which prevents the pistol from being fired unless the slide is completely closed. The Disconnector works automatically, and requires no operation by the user, WARNING ‘The automatic safety can provide only partial protection against mishaps. By itself it is not a complete safety system. For full mechanical pro- tection. You must consistently and correctly use the safety lever also! a THE BEST SAFETY DEVICE IS YOUR OWN GOOD SENSE. USE IT! TO PLACE THE SAFETY LEVER “ON” WHEN THE HAMMER IS COCKED Keep your finger away from the trigger and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction! Push the safe- ty lever down with the thumb (see arrow). The hammer will drop forward, but cannot strike the firing pin. The trigger will remain in a rear- ward position. When the safety lever is turned “OFF", the trigger will return to its forward position, If the safety lever Is turned “ON” when the hai mer is uncocked, the hammer cannot thereafter be cocked either with the thumb or by pulling the trigger. ae ee NOTE: With a cartridge in the chamber, some shooters prefer to lower the hammer from the cocked position without letting it “snap down in the normal fashion. This may be accomplished by holding the pistol in the right hand, finger off the trigger and the muzzle pointed in a safe dir- ection. Hold back the hammer firmly with the right thumb and use the left hand to turn the safety lever “ON”. This locks and shields the firing pin, and releases the hammer. Now ease the hammer down with the right thumb. eed WARNING ‘Never carry this pistol with a cartridge irrthe chamber without the safety lever “ON'! Always keep your finger off the trigger and point the muzzle in a safe direction when ‘turning the safety lever “ON” or “OFF”! Always use the safety lever for lowering the hammer! Never use the trigger for this pur- pose! Keep pistol pointed in a safe direction! Never depend totally on any mechanical safe- ty. It is not a substitute for cautious gun handling! — \FIGURE 2 eee “——__\ FIGURE 3 oe Ds FUNCTIONING OF THE TRIGGER AND SAFETY FIGURE 1 LOADED, WITH THE MANUAL SAFETY “ON” ‘The safety lever (6) has been turned down, lock- ing the firing pin (9) against forward movement (see arrow). The cylindrical shaft of the safety lever is shielding the rear of the firing pin against contact from the hammer (27). in addition, the hammer is blocked by the cutomatic safety (24). FIGURE 2 READY TO FIRE DOUBLE-ACTION Same as Fig. 1 except that the safety lever has been turned “OFF”, unlocking and exposing the ing pin. The hammer is uncocked; the auto- matic safety is still blocking the hammer's for- ward travel. FIGURE 3 COCKED AND READY TO FIRE SINGLE-ACTION ‘The cartridge is loaded in the chamber. The ham- mer is fully cocked and the pistol is now ready to fire with only gentle pressure on the trigger. FIGURE 4 THE MOMENT OF FIRING Moving to its rearmost position, the trigger (39) rotates the cocking piece (37), releasing the ham- mer and, at the same tim g the automatic safety out of the hammer’s way. The hammer falls, striking the firing pin through a slot in the cylindrical shaft of the safety lever, firing the cartridge. es WARNING DO NOT USE THE TRIGGER TO LOWER THE HAMMER FROM THE COCKED POSITION. THIS IS DANGEROUS, AND MAY ALLOW THE PISTOL TO FIRE ACCIDENTALLY. LOADING WARNING ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A. SAFE DIRECTION! NEVER ATTEMPT TO LOAD OR UNLOAD ANY FIREARM INSIDE A VEHICLE OR OTHER CONFINED SPACE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. DO IT SAFELY WHERE YOU AND OTHERS ARE NOT ENDANGERED. BEFORE LOADING, ALWAYS CLEAN ALL OIL AND GREASE FROM THE BORE AND CHAMBER, AND CHECK TO BE CERTAIN NO OBSTRUCTION ISIN THE BARREL. ANY FOREIGN MATTER IN THE BARREL COULD RESULT IN A “BULGED OR BURST BAR- REL OR OTHER DAMAGE TO THE FIRE- ARM, AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE SHOOTER OR TO OTHERS. ee MAKE FIREARMS SAFETY A HABIT! eS TO REMOVE THE MAGAZINE Turn the safety lever “ON”. Press the magazine release button with the thumb and withdraw the magazine. MAKE FIREARMS SAFETY A HABIT! LOADING THE MAGAZINE Push down the feeder platform on the round al- ready in the magazine with the rim of the cart- ridge and carefully shove the new round under ‘the magazine lips. To empty the magazine, push each cartridge forward until it is no longer held by the magazine lips. CAUTION: Damaged or bent magazine lips will cause malfunctioning. DO NOT USE FORCE! 10 TO CHAMBER THE FIRST ROUND. Keep your lever “ON pistol until it ger off the trigger. Keep the safety ert the full magazine into the retained by the magazine catch. Grip the pistol with the shooting hand, keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. With the other hand grasp the grooved surfaces at the rear of the slide and pull the slide fully to the rear, then release it smartly. The slide will snap for- d chambering the first cartridge. The hammer will remain uncocked, and cannot be cocked un- til the safety lever is turned “OFF” UNLOADING Turn the safety lever “ON", and remove the magazine. Then pull back the slide smartly to eject any cartridge left in the chamber. Hold the slide rearward and look in the chamber and mag- azine well to make sure that the pistol is empty. WARNING REMEMBER TO UNLOAD THE CHAMBER AFTER REMOVING THE MAGAZINE! ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION! 1 12 Indim tight, the white markings enable the sights to be quickly and accurately aligned. In bright light, the dark outlines of the front and AIMING Fear sights contrast sharply. Note that the sights should be at even height (a) across the top, with an equal amount of light (b) showing on either side of the front sight. WARNING NEVER POINT ANY FIREARM .. LOADED OR UNLOADED .. AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT. KEEP THE MUZ- ZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE. ALWAYS BE SURE OF YOUR BACKSTOP! MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOUR BACKSTOP IS ADEQUATE TO STOP AND CONTAIN YOUR BULLETS. REMEMBER, YOUR BUL- LET CAN CARRY FOR MORE THAN ONE MILE. NEVER SHOOT AT HARD SURFACES LIKE ROCK OR AT WATER; THE BULLET COULD RICOCHET AND TRAVEL IN ANY DIRECTION TO STRIKE YOU OR A PERSON OR OBJECT YOU CANNOT SEE, CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE OR SERIQUS INJURY. ee WARNING Never leave any firearm cocked and ready to lischarged accidentally, causing serious injury or damage to property. Never fire any pistol with your finger, hand, face or other part of your body over or adjacent to the ejection port, or in any position wher you may be struck by the reciprocating move- ment of the slide. Failure to heed this warning could result in bodily injury. Both the move- ment of the slide and the ejection of empty cartridge cases are part of the normal operating cycle of a pistol, and pose no safety hazard to the shooter if the pistol is held in a normal grip and fired at arm’s length as intended by its design. Never allow other persons to stand beside you where they might be struck by an ejected cart- ridge case. The case is hot, and may be ejected with sufficient force to cause a burn or cut or i jure an unprotected eye. Make certain that the is a clear, unobstructed path for safe ejection of the fired case. Remember, the case may bounce off hard object close by and strike you or someone else causing FIRING The selective double-action trigger mechanism of the Walther PP, PPK and PPK/S pistols off- ers the shooter a choice of two methods to cock ‘the hammer for the first shot. DOUBLE-ACTION For a quick first shot when fine accuracy is un- necessary, point the pistol at the target, push the safety lever “OFF” with the thumb, and take aim. To shoot, simply pull the trigger through the full length of its travel. This movement auto- matically cocks and drops the hammer in one motion, firing the pistol. 13 14 SINGLE-ACTION When more deliberate aim is required for the first shot, point the pistol at the target, push the safety lever “OFF” with the thumb, then cock the hammer by pulling it fully to the rear with the thumb. Keep your finger away from the trigger while cocking the hammer! Cocking the hammer causes the trigger to retract nearly to its rearmost position. Take aim. To shoot, apply slight pressure to the trigger. This will cause the hammer to drop, firing the pistol. After the first shot, the hammer is automat- ically cocked and the trigger is automatically retained at the single action position for each succeeding shot until the magazine is empty. If shooting is to be continued, remove the mag- azine and insert the next full magazine. Keeping your finger away from the trigger, pull the slide back slightly and release it smartly. The slide will snap forward, chambering the first cartridge. The hammer will be cocked, and the pistol is ready to resume firing. If shooting isnot to be continued, turn the safe- ty lever “ON” and remove the empty magazine. Then pull the slide back slightly and allow it to run forward gently. The hammer will now be un- cocked. If shooting is temporarily discontinued while some cartridges remain in the pistol, always im- mediately turn the safety lever “O} PROTECT YOUR EYES AND EARS! 3 Always wear adequate shooting glasses and ear THE SLIDE REMAINS OPEN AFTER THE LAST SHOT HAS BEEN FIRED. ee TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE When transporting your firearm to and from shooting activities, keep it unloaded for your safety and for the safety of others. Likewise when storing your firearm, keep it separated from ammunition, under lock and key if poss- ible, and out of the reach of children and other inexperienced or unauthorized persons. ee protectors whenever you are shooting. Always make certain that persons in close proximity to you are similarly protected. Without ear protection, repeated exposure to shooting noise may lead to cumulative, perman- ent hearing loss. Unprotected eyes may be injured by powder gas, carbon residue, lubricant, metallic particles, or similar debris which may occasionally emanate from any firearm in normal use. Never shoot any firearm without wearing adequate shooting glass- es! Protect your eyes and ears! 15 FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 CARE AND CLEANING ‘Your Walther pistol is delivered factory-packaged and preserved with a light coating of protective grease and oils. There are no loose parts. 16 FIGURE 1 ‘Turn the safety lever “‘ON' and remove the mag- azine. Make sure that the chamber is empty. Pull the trigger guard downward, push it side- ways with the index finger, and allow it to rest on the underside of the frame. Hold the trigger guard in this position with the index finger. FIGURE 2 Pull the slide fully back, then lift it off and allow it to glide forward to clear the barrel. Never allow the hammer to drop forward on the frame while in this dismantled condition, as this may cause damage to internal parts. FIGURE! FIGURE 2 RE-ASSEMBLING THE PISTOL The pistol is now dismantied into its three main components. To aid cleaning, the recoil spring may be removed. Further disassembly is not re- quired and should not be attempted except by a skilled technician. When replacing the spring, the narrow end of the spring goes around the barrel. WARNING ALWAYS CHECK TO BE SURE THAT NO CLEANING PATCH OR OTHER OB- STRUCTION REMAINS IN THE BORE OR CHAMBER AFTER CLEANING! jammer, pull the trigger guard down, ways to allow it to rest on the under- side of the frame, and hold it in this position with your index finger. With the safety still “ON", replace the slide on the barrel at an oblique angle, pull it back fully and push it down flat on the frame, then allow the slide to move forward into position. FIGURE 2 Pull the trigger guard down slightly and allow it to return to its normal position. Replace the magazine. This completes reassembly. 17 18 CARE AND CLEANING teres TO KEEP YOUR PISTOL IN PERFECT OPERATING CONDITION 1, After dismantling, clean the barrel and cham- ber thoroughly with bore solvent, using a bronze brush if necessary. Wipe dry and oil lightly. 2. Use a small brush, cotton swabs, or a cloth patch soaked with solvent to clean all exposed internal surfaces. Pay particular attention to the bolt face (where the firing pin protrudes) and under the extractor hook. 3. Sparingly lubricate moving parts with a light, high quality gun oil. Be sure to include the con- tact points between the slide and frame. Wipe off any excess oil. WARNING Always check to be sure that no clean- ing patch or other obstruction remains in the bore or chamber after cleaning!
