 What is your name and age?

 Who is living with you?

There are three of us. My two children and me.

( Tulo kami, duha anak ko ngan ako. )

 Is there any grandchild living with you?

Yes, there is, that is why there are three of us. Me, my son, and my son’s son.

They live with me. They are my companion in life.

( May-ada, amu itun nga tulo kami. Ako, tak anak, ngan itun nga anak hit ak

anak. Anhi itun hira nalumon ha akon. Hira tak kaupod hit ak kinabuhi.

 How about your husband? Where is he?

I don’t have a husband anymore. My husband has been at peace for a long

time. My husband left me a long time ago.

( Waray ko na gad asawa. Maiha na nga namatay an ak bana. Naiha na gad ak

niya nga ginbayaan. )

 How was your life?

Of course its hard.

 Can you avail the senior citizen cash assistance? Or any cash assistance from

the government?

Yes, I’m a beneficiary. It’s just that it runs out immediately because the goods

are expensive. Sometimes even paying off the debt due to poverty. My son is a

beneficiary of the 4P’s, not me. It also helps somehow.


( Oo, benepisyaryo ako. Ada kay naubos liwat dayun kay mga mahal naman it

 What is your source of income?

My son works for us. He takes bribes like construction or maybe he trims the

grass or anything just for money.

 How about you, can you still work?

I can’t work anymore because I’m old. Even now my rheumatism attacks me.

I just lay there all day, I couldn’t walk.

rayuma, naghihinigdaon la ak magkulop kay waray ak pakalakat. )

 Do you have any other illnesses?

Yes there is. Sometimes my sugar rises. I must maintain my food because

there are many forbidden foods. Sometimes highblood, especially when there

is no money.

( Mayda ko kuan, usahay na high sugar ako. Bis ngane tak pagkaon maintain

kay damu it bawal. Danay liwat na highblood, labis na kun waray kwarta. )

 Do you have maintenance for your illnesses?

The only one I have is the one for my rheumatism. For my highblood I just do

herbals.

( Oo mayda ko kanan rayuma it kanan highblood waray nagheherbal la ako. )

 What about with your high sugar?


I heat water and add bitter leaves, that’s what I drink. Because I don’t have

medicine for that. I just avoid eating sweets.

( Naglalaso ako hin tubig ngan binutangan ko hin magpait nga dahon, asya tak

gin-iinom. Ky waray ko man ngani medisina gihap hiton. Naghihirot nala ako

hiton nga mga magtam-is. )

 How do you know when your sugar is high?

I feel weak. Besides, the scar on my foot turns black, they say when you have

diabetes. Also sometimes my vision blurs.

( Nanluluya ak. Ngan ini man tak tiil baga nangitom it ulat. Nasiring man hira

nga basta sugad diabetic man kuno. Ngan usahay baga malaparap tak pagkita.

 How is your relationship with your family and neighborhood?

In my family, we get along well. It’s just that sometimes conflict cannot be

avoided, but usually I just understand them. My neighbors are fine too, my son

lives in the house opposite ours. This one is my niece’s house.

( Baga maupay man. Usahay baga dri nagkaka-arasya naman. Pero akon nala

itun hira gin-iintindi. Napaubinig nala ako. Ha amun mga kasapit maupay man

gihap. Kay itiitun nga atubangan kanan akon itun anak. Itun liwat nga usa

 Do you have any relatives whose supporting your needs?

Yes there is. My nieces sometimes give money or maybe food. The others are

in manila, when they go home they give me pasalubong. If they give me

money I can save to I buy my medicine but sometimes when we don’t have

money the savings I have we spend on food.

( Oo mayda. Tak mga umangkon nahatag ha akon usahay hin kwarta diri

 Have you had a check-up when you feel sick?

I haven’t been able to check on my illnesses yet, because the health center is

far away. When I can’t take my maintenance for rheumatism I can’t really

walk. My whole body is affected, I feel really weak when my rheumatism

attacks.

 If you are given a chance to talk to the government officials, what things do

you want to say?

I will ask for help because of our poverty. Daily expenses. Especially with the

pains I feel. Difficulties in life.

adlaw. Labi na it kanan akon mga inanaabat nga mga sakit. Mga kawarayan ha

kinabuhi. )
