INTRODUCTION

 Case Description- Acute myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack, is a life-
threatening condition that occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle (especially the
myocardium, wherein it’s responsible for the pumping of the heart) is abruptly cut off,
causing tissue damage.

 Risk Factors
-Obesity -Use of cocaine
-Hypertension -Direct trauma
-Smoking -Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
-Genetic and Familial Tendency

 Etiology
-Underlying coronary artery disease
- Coronary artery occlusion
- Prolonged deprivation of oxygen supply to the myocardium

 Signs and Symptoms


-Levine Sign -Altered level of consciousness
-Crushing Pain -Anxiety (Feeling of Doom)
-Difficulty of breathing

 Diagnostic Test
-Electrocardiogram -Laboratory test (Cardiac enzymes and biomakers)
-Echocardiogram

 Complications
-Heart failure -Heart valve problems
-Blood clots -Cardiac arrest and sudden death

 Treatment options
-Initial management (Supplemental oxygen, aspirin, nitroglycerin, morphine)
-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
-Thrombolytics
-Cardiac Rehabilitation
-Heart surgery (heart transplant)
-Surgically implanted devices
