placing that person in a “newly discovered” category or group. Also, because most
personal data collected and used in data mining applications is considered neither
confidential nor intimate in nature, there is a tendency to presume that such data
must, by default, be public data. And unlike the personal data that are often
exchanged
between or across two or more databases in traditional database retrieval
processes, in
the data mining process personal data are often manipulated within a single
database,
and typically within a large data warehouse
