2. Organizational structure contribute to the success of an organization in a way that it makes operations
more efficient and much more effective. By separating employees and functions into different
departments, the company can perform different operations at once seamlessly. In addition, a very clear
organizational structure informs employees on how best to get their jobs done.
3. A functional organization structure is where employees are organized into departments. It seeks to
optimize internal resources and efficiencies within each department. It acts as a framework, structure or
boundary for binding the entire organization in a common thread and facilitates commitment towards a
broader organizational cause among employees which is greater than their own self goals. Basically, a
functional organizational structure is set and planned with goals. On the other hand, a dysfunctional
organization structure is chaotic where an organization is not operating well. In a sense wherein it can
cause an array of problems in the organization such as poor communication.
4. Line authority is the power given to someone in a supervisory position to mandate actions by
subordinates. This authority is given so that an organization can attain its stated goals and objectives. It is
a common characteristic of the hierarchical organizational structure. In nursing, line authority is important
because it serves as a guide for us Nurses to know our responsibility along which orders are passed within
the nursing department, the hospital, and between different units.
