INTRODUCTION
“Catch phrase” – first few lines should catch the reader’s attention, not divert; usually on qualitative
research
First paragraph should tell what the readers are about to read
Write the paper with not too long paragraph
Cohesive sentences – short sentences, medium sentences, long sentences alternating
Use intelligent words
Thesaurus; instead of “big”, use “enormous”
1st paragraph (3-5 lines)
Contain succinct & concise data (Like a teaser)
Should tell the research topic/problem
Next paragraphs
Crescendo – should build the problem/case upon each paragraph
Includes
o previous research
o statistics (WHO, PSA)
o current trends (news, articles)
o gray literature (magazines, pocket books)
Should work from global to local (World Asia Philippines Luzon Benguet)
Weave the significance of the study to introduction [not in separate area]
o Principle of RECIPROCITY
o Significant of the study – must be included in the introduction
Define terms along the way
o State explicitly on what use/ from what dictionary
Wrap it up by saying, “It’s truly important…”
Do not saturate with a lot of information to prevent pre-empting your research [QUALITATIVE]
