Show all the necessary steps

1. Suppose the average length of stay in a chronic disease hospital of a certain type of
patient is 60 days with a standard deviation of 15. If it is reasonable to assume an
approximately normal distribution of lengths of stay,
 Find the probability that a randomly selected patient from this group will have a
length of stay: a) Greater than 70 days b) Less than 40 days

2. A sample of 16 ten-year-old girls had a mean weight of 71.5 with a variance of 144.
Assuming normality, find the 90, 95, and 99 percent confidence intervals for μ.

3. Despite common knowledge of the adverse effects of doing so, many women
continue to smoke while pregnant. A researcher examined the effectiveness of a
smoking cessation program for pregnant women. The mean number of cigarettes
smoked daily at the close of the program by the 328 women who completed the
program was 4.3 with a standard deviation of 5.22. Among 64 women who did not
complete the program, the mean number of cigarettes smoked per day at the close of
the program was 13 with a standard deviation of 8.97. Construct a 95% confidence
interval for the difference between the means of the populations from which the
samples may be presumed to have been selected.

4. In Ethiopia, one of the serious public health issues is car accident. A public health
expert wants to study about one of the causes of car accident which is driving after
drinking alcohol. Previous survey estimated that 20% of drivers drove under the
influence of drugs (khat chewing) or alcohol. A similar survey is planned in 2019. If
the expert want a 95% confidence interval to have a margin of error of 0.05, how
many samples are required for this study? (Hint: Z critical at 95 % C.I is 1.96).

5. A sample of 25 freshman nursing students made a mean score of 77 on a test

designed to measure attitude toward the dying patient. The population standard
deviation was 10. Do these data provide sufficient evidence to indicate, at the 5%
level of significance, that the population mean is different from 80?
