As my other team members discussed various aspects related to the heath care data breach, I would

like to take you all to a small cases study related to the same. considering the present situation I
believe compromise of healthcare data is one of the most dangerous forms of data breach on the
internet. Let us understand this with this case. So, recently, India witnessed one of the biggest
healthcare data breaches of all time wherein Data from a Kerala’s multi-speciality hospital got leaked
over the internet. It comprised patients’ records of over last 5 years. Personal information of more
than 2 lakh patients including reports, scans and all the personal information got leaked despite
Kerala being one of the few states in India which has a well developed private heathcare delivery
system. The hospital also has one of 101 private NABL Accredited Laboratories for RT-PCR testing
and therefore a huge number of covid-19 test reports also got out on the internet and to make the
matter worse, separate folders named according to patients ID including all their records were
available in the public domain for anyone to access. You can also see the picture how a patient’s
covid-19 report was up reavealing all his personal info.

So, not only this case, During the pandemic we have received news of many such data breaches by
hospitals and testing centres all over the country and most of the cases happened due to
vulnerability of the systems used by these setups. Negligence on part of the hospitals dealing such
enormous amount of personal data has the potential to hamper people’s lives in many ways. So,
stringent laws and their compliance is the need of the hour.

And we really hope that with the new laws and the more awareness coming in, the situation would
be better in coming future.

Now My teammate Shalvi will be concluding the presentation. So over to you Shalvi.
