Can we have a round of a plause for Ubaba Johnny Clegg.

Kunjani Ubaba? Ngiyaphila Oshandran!

So, you are a British National that has moved from Zimbabwe and later immigrated to
South Africa? Can you explain that further to our viewers?
Yes. I was born in England. My mum was born in Zimbabwe. I grew up on a farm. My
mother married a South African Journalist, we then moved to South Africa and about a
year later we moved to Zambia.

How has this influenced you as a person towards accepting a multicultural society?
In living in Zambia, there were more black kids than white kids. In the later years
returning to South Africa I had recognized the difference in cultures.

How did music become part of your life?

My mum was a musician and I had learnt how to play a guitar. I met a street musician that
opened the road to me. Having lived in Zambia, made me open to this type of music and
culture. And being a migrant between 3 places, I became more open to the cultures and
diversities of them.

You are currently going through a personal struggle which our hearts go out to you for
your braveness. Yes. I am suffering with pancreatic cancer. It is my personal struggle
which I am always researching on. I recently went for a pancreatic conference and met
many other patients with similar conditions.

What was the song you sang when Nelson Mandela walked on stage? Asimbonanga. It
was recorded with Savuka in 1987.

What is your favourite song? Scattlings of Africa for sure.

When was it launched? It was launched in 1982 and recorded with Suvuka which launched
my second band. It was no. 1 in France, Switzerland and Beljium.

Yes, as we all know you are fondly know as Le Zulu Blanc in France, the white Zulu.

Thank you Ubaba, that is all the time we have today before we listen to one of your
famous tracks!
