poem

We walked in the perfumed-ladened breeze,

Admist majestic pines, and chil and deodar trees;

In shadowy valleys and rocky ravines

Where tiny rills meet the rushing streams;

Where summer's green foliage makes a grateful change

From the burning heat of Punjab plains;

Where shining mist-columns at noon arise

To evaporate swiftly in luminous skies;

Where ferns and flowers-the gentian and sweet edelweiss-

Are adorned by the colours of superb butterflies;

Where torrents of water from a mild thunderstorm

Herald the start of the summer monsoon;

And where beauty.and peace, and 'intelligent design'

Reflect the great Soul of the Creator Divine.
