HSWP288-350 REV C
TOOL PURPOSE, Publish Date:
OPERATING, AND 21/MAR/2017
MAINTENANCE FORM
TOOL NAME: 2.88 in. OD HydraSweep II Valve
Section 1: TOOL PURPOSE
The HydraSweep II valve is similar to the original HydraSweep circulating valve in
that shuts off flow to the motor and opens a side flow port(s) to the annulus to allow
higher circulating rates. There have been several improvements to enhance
operation. Please note that there are very few components from the original tool
design that are used in the HydraSweep II.

This valve is operated by cycling the internal differential pressure by increasing and
decreasing the pump rate. This tool must be run with a flow restriction below the tool
(either a jet perforator or XRV and motor sub) to allow the internal pressure to
increase above the hydrostatic pressure (plus the force required to compress the
return spring) externally at the tool. The position of the circulating port is controlled
by continuous ratchet/J-slot path. This tool has 2 positions, flow through or flow out
the side port with the flow below blanked off.

The tool is designed to allow higher circulating rates up the annulus without pumping
through the motor below, or it can be used to spot fluids.

Section 2: OPERATION
1. The tool requires as least 500 to 750 psi higher internal pressure to completely
shift positions. Please note that the internal mechanism starts to shift around
400 psi but can require up to 750 psi to complete this shift due to friction and
slight variations in the internal springs. This pressure differential must be
maintained to keep the circulating port(s) open. See Appendix A for
recommended flow rates for both the single and double ported tools.
2. Determine flow rate through motor or perforator that will achieve 1000 psi
pressure drop.
3. Starting with rate determined above, to shift the tool from the flow through
position and open up the side port follow the steps below:
a. Decrease rate to ¼ BPM and maintain for 3 minutes
b. Increase rate to obtain a 750 to 1000 psi higher internal pressure
c. The internal mandrel will shift down closing off flow below the tool and
open up a side flow port(s).
d. See Appendix A for Expected differential pressure vs flow rate. Please
note that this differential pressure should be added to the friction loss
through the coil to obtain actual total pressure.

4. To shift the tool back to the pump through position follow the steps below:
a. Decrease rate to ¼ BPM and maintain for 3 minutes
b. Increase the flow rate back to the required rate for drilling/milling or
perforating.
c. Please note that the expected differential pressure should be the same
as determined in step 2.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as needed.

Tool Disassembly Instructions
Step Description
 Verify any special instructions from Supervisor before disassembling
tool.
1  Obtain correct Tech Spec for the assembly:
PN HSWP288-350 – HydraSweep II, 2.88 in. OD
o
Disassemble in reverse order of the assembly instructions
CAUTION – Depending on what happened on the job the tool could
have excessive spring force pushing on bottom adapter during dis-
assembly. This could result in the spring case being propelled off the
2
tool when the last thread is disengaged on the ported connector. Make
sure everyone is clear from the end of the tool. It is recommended that
Steps 1 through 10 of the “Function Test” procedure be performed on
the tool before dis-assembling to verify the tool position
After disassembly all components should be cleaned and visually inspected.
3 Any damaged components should be reviewed with your Supervisor and
replaced if necessary.

18
Function and pressure test the assembly using the following instructions:
Note - Test Kit PN HSWP313-300-PK (not supplied w/assembly) is required to
perform the required assembly pressure test.
1. Install o-ring (2-208-N1210-90) onto test plug (MCC288-320)
Install o-ring (2-142-N1210-90) onto 2-3/8 PAC test caps
2.
(TF000-900-313 and TF000-900314).
Using a ½ in. 13 UNC all thread rod (PN MCC288-328), install test plug
into top of tool and makeup the 2-3/8 PAC test plug (TF000-9000-313)
onto tool.

3.

Attach pressure line to test plug.

NOTE: Depending on what position in the ratchet that the tool was
4.
assembled in, Steps 5 and 7 may be reversed. It is important that the
last pressure cycle open the circulating port(s). Repeat the pressure
cycle as needed to accomplish this.
Apply 600 psi max to the tool. The pressure should slowly climb
indicating that the mandrel is moving to the first position. At
5.
approximately 340 psi the pressure should climb rapidly indicating the
mandrel has stopped in the first position of the ratchet.
6. Release pressure back to 0 psi.
Apply 600 psi max to the tool. The pressure should slowly climb
indicating that the mandrel is moving to the second position. At
7. approximately 480 psi the pressure should climb rapidly indicating the
mandrel has stopped in the second position of the ratchet with the
circulating port(s) open.
8. Release pressure back to 0 psi.
9. Remove the 2-3/8 PAC test plug (TF000-9000-313) the assembly.
Insert the ½ in. 13 UNC all thread rod (PN MCC288-328) and remove the
10.
plug.
11. Reinstall the 2-3/8 PAC test plug (TF000-9000-313).

into the ID of the tool. Install the 2-3/8 PAC test cap (TF000-9000-314)
onto the bottom adapter (6).

12.

Attach pressure line to the 2-3/8 PAC test plug (TF000-9000-313) and
13. blank-off/plug the 2-3/8 PAC test cap (TF000-9000-314).

14. Apply up to 10,000 psi max to the ID of the tool and hold for 5 minutes.
15. Release pressure to 0 psi.
16. Remove the top and bottom test plug and cap.
17. Remove the piston stop (MCC288-327).
18. Drain the test fluid from the tool.
IMPORTANT – Verify that the plug (MCC288-320) and piston stop
19.
(MCC288-327) have been removed from the top and bottom of the tool.
20. Install thread protectors.
Document function and pressure test results and report to Shop
