“Help, we need help! Our house is being robbed!” My mom yelled at the 911 operator as

I watched her in fear. Everyone thumped louder and louder as my mom kept yelling. I didn’t

know what to say or think. It was night and I was tired and hungry as this all occurred. My

grandma, grandpa, uncle, my 3 siblings, my mother, my stepdad, and I were in the house. My

uncle ran hysterically until he found his way to the back of the couch, where he hid the rest of

the time. “God, please help us.” My grandma started praying out loud in a worried voice. My

stepdad and my grandpa were sleeping. “What are we supposed to do now.” I thought. We were

all scared.

There was no light, air conditioning, and still no help. Three guys in motorcycles were in front of

my house. My grandpa noticed that something was wrong and woke up scared and nervous. As

soon as my mom noticed that he woke up she explained to him that these motorcycle guys going

in and out of our urbanization since 10:00 p.m. and suddenly, they stopped in front of our house

and turned the lights off their motorcycles and brightened our entire house. My grandpa stood up

very fast and woke up my stepdad. He explained what happened very fast, and my stepdad

reacted fast and stood up angry; He was going to run to the front door, but everyone in the house

jumped at him, so he didn’t go out and got shot, injured, or something like that.

When he calmed down, we got off him, and he walked with my grandpa to the front door.

I couldn’t see what they were doing or going, I was just hoping that anything bad happened to

them. They saw the three guys walking to our house. When they got into our front door my

grandpa punched the door 3 times and yelled, “Get the fuck out of here motherfuckers”. The

police were on their way, but the three guys got scared and ran out.

This experience changed my life. Since that day when the sun came down, I was already

inside my house no matter what. I started living more scared even in my house thinking that

someone could come into my house and do something to me, or my family. I started living more

aware of my surrounding. I started thinking differently about how your life can change

drastically in a blink of an eye.
