Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of 50-minute period, Learners should be able to:
divide mentally 2 to 3 digit numbers by 1-digit number without remainder;
tell the importance of fruits to our body; and
practice speed and accuracy in dividing mentally.

II. SUBJETC MATTER:

Skill : Dividing mentally 2 to 3 digit numbers by 1-digit number without remainder.

III. PROCEDURE:

A. Preparatory Activities:

1. Drill

Have the drill on basic division facts.

Tell:
Yes, Ma’am!
Class, we are going to have a contest. You want to play?

Okay, it will be called “A Step for Victory”.

You will be grouped by 3. Each group must choose a

participant. I will flash the cards. In the cards are written
basic division equation. The first one to give the correct
answer will make a step until he or she reaches the finish
line. The one who first reaches the finish line will be
declared as winner. 10

Riddles 72

I’m thinking of a number, when you divide it by 9, the

quotient is 8. What is the number? 9

The dividend is 54, the quotient is 6, what is the divisor? 63

The divisor is 9, the quotient is 7, what is the dividend? 49

The divisor is 7, the quotient is 7, what is the dividend? 12

The dividend is 36, the divisor is 3, what is the quotient?

3. Motivation

Showing of picture.

Ask: That picture shows a lot of mangoes in a basket.

What can you say about this picture?

Yes, Ma’am!
Very good! Three claps.
Yes, Ma’am! Fruits are important to our body because it helps us

Do you believe that fruits are important to our body? Why? Fruits provide vitamins to our body.

What do they do to our body? to our health?

B. Developmental Activities:

1. Presentation
(learners read the problem altogether)
Tell:
Kent and his two friends picked 26 mangoes from the farm. They
Everybody read the problem carefully. divide the mangoes equally among themselves. How many mangoes
did each boy receive?

They divide the mangoes equally among themselves. How
many mangoes did each boy receive?
Kent and his friend picked the mangoes from the farm.
Ask:
They picked 26 mangoes.
Who picked mangoes from the farm?

How many mangoes did they pick?

Kent and his friend, 26 mangoes

They divide the mangoes equally to themselves.

What are the given facts?
The process to be used is division.
What did they do to the mangoes?
26 2=n
What operation will be used to solve the problem?
What is the correct number sentence for the word Yes, Ma’am!
problem?

Can you get the quotient without using your pen and Divide 26 by 2 mentally.
paper?

How?

Reinforcing the Concept and Skill:

12
Let the learners answer the following
20
1.) 36 3=
9
2.) 60 3=
21
3.) 72 8=

4.) 105 5=

2. Discussion
We get the answer by knowing the basic division facts.
Ask:
2
How do we get the answer?
1
How many digits are the dividends?
Yes
The divisor?
Express 26 2, then, divide 20 + 6 by 2
Can we get the answer without using our paper and pen?

How?
(learners answer the exercise through dyads)
Tell:

This time, we are going to have “Pair-Share-Activity”. You

will choose your partner and answer the exercises through
dyads using flashcards with division facts (2 to 3 digits by 1
digit combination). Three (3) minutes is given to you to
complete the task.
13
Note: Guide the learners in choosing their partners.

We divide the numbers mentally by renaming the dividend into parts,
then, divide each part individually by the divisor, and finally, we add the
partial quotients to get the final quotient.
