ABSTRACT

Malahayati University (UNMAL) is one of the educational areas contributing to CO 2

gas emissions that have an impact on global warming, decreased environmental
quality, where transportation factors become the main source of CO 2 pollution. The
purpose of this study is to determine the amount of CO 2 emissions from motor
vehicles and the absorption of green open space (RTH) and evaluate RTH in the
UNMAL area. The methods used in this study are example tile methods and sesus in
calculating the amount of vegetation, traffic counting to determine the amount of
motor vehicle emissions and literature studies in calculating the absorption of green
open space filler trees (RTH). Based on the results of the analysis obtained total CO 2
emissions from vehicles (RSPBA, campus, rectorate, dormitory, and housing) in the
UNMAL area of 17,604.19 g OF CO 2 / hour and existing absorption in the UNMAL
area of 777,747.52 g / CO2 / hour. Based on the results of co2 absorption analysis of
total emissions and absorbency of CO 2 Green open space (RTH) in unmal region has
been able to absorb CO2 emissions. Therefore, to further optimize the CO2 absorption
capability of motor vehicles is carried out by maintenance of RTH filler plants such
as watering, fertilizing and pruning as well as re-vegetation (change / addition) of
trees in some areas such as road media, parks, and parking lots
