Animal Abuse

Animal abuse is any action that can cause unnecessary pain or discomfort to animals, any
act that can hurt them, abandonment is also animal abuse. Animal abuse comes from
voluntary actions or simple negligence in its care.

Types of abuse
There are some types of abuse that are: first, keeping them in places that are not appropriate
for their habits, abandoning them, neglecting their health and hygiene, not giving them the
nutrition that they need to develop, violently mistreating them, beating them, hurting them.

Although we refer to all animals when we talk about animal abuse, there are some that are
the ones that face this situation the most: dogs, cats, horses, and cows.

The first two, which are known as domestic animals, are among those that suffer the most
from mistreatment by their owners, while horses and cows are mistreated due to the
farming industry.

Animal Abuse in Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico there have been a lot of animals who suffer from abuse, people who
abandon them or try to poison them, even people who just don´t treat them right and forget
they are also living creatures. In Puerto Rico, there are almost 3,000 law officials who are
trained in matter of animal cruelty investigations, but people still do this kind of things,
maybe they don´t know the law, or they just don´t care, but animal abuse is a serious matter
that need to be take care of.
 
 The Happy Dog

This is the story of the happy dog, his name was jack, when jack was born, he
was the happiest dog of all his brothers, he was always jumping and running, he
loved to smile and play.

One day while Jack was playing, he noticed that there was a butterfly flying,
he began to chase it, he ran and ran after it, but, he couldn´t reach it, when
he turned around to return, he realized that he didn`t know where he was and that he
didn`t know how to return home.

Jack walked for hours and hours looking for a way to return with his family, but every
time he moved forward, he felt that he was getting further away, it began to get dark, and
Jack did not know where to go. He lay down in a corner hoping that the next day he
would have better luck finding his way home.

Although he was lost and completely alone, Jack remained happy,

cheerful as always, he woke up with a positive attitude trusting that
perhaps today he would be able to return home. He started to
walk, when suddenly he bumped into an old man.

Jack trying to attract his attention started to bark and circle around the
man, trusting that maybe he could help him return home, the man watched Jack for a while
and then took him in his arms and said:

- I'll take you home, a little company won´t hurt me

Upon arriving at the old man's house, Jack realized that he

lived alone and that the house was in poor condition.

Even so, Jack was happy, he had found a place to rest

comfortably, and he would have company.
Jack started trying to play with the old man, but he just wanted to sit down every day. A
few days passed and even though Jack remained happy, he was not feeling very well, the
old man had forgotten to feed him for several days, he was not giving him enough water
either.

One day Jack began to miss his family again and seeing that the man had almost forgotten
about him, he went out for a walk

as he was walking, he started feeling worse than before, he didn´t have any energy and feel
kind of sleepy, in his way, a woman saw him, and seeing how skinny he was, and how bad
he look, she took he home, when they arrived, she feed him and give him water.

Jack thought that the lady who feed him was a nice person, so he stay there with her, a few
days pass and jack as always was happy for findinf someone who could take care of him
and maybe love him, he got really excited and start barking and playing.

When the lady noticed she started to get annoyed, she didn't like the noise Jack was making
of happiness, so she grab a stick that was near her and threw it at Jack, she didn´t catch him,
but jack got really scare

He thought that maybe it wasn't intentional, that it was just an accident, that she was trying
to play with him by throwing a stick so he would pick it up and bring it to her, so he didn´t
do anything and stay very still.

The next days Jack try to not make so much noise, but the lady kept feeling annoyed around
him, Jack notice it and try to not bother her, but even with that happening he still was the
happiest dog there was

One day Jack was sleeping when he hear the lady getting home furious, she start throwing
things and when she saw him, she try to pick him up but Jack start running, she then start
trying to hit him, she threw things at him, Jack was really scared, he didn´t what he did
wrong, he just wanted a home, with a family or someone who loved him, seeing how crazy
the lady got, jack decided to leave the house and restart his search for his family.

Jack start wondering on the street, finally after all what happen someone took his smile
away, he trusted someone, he always tried to be happy and keep smiling, but this time, he
wasn´t able to do it.
He keep walking, but he was so tired and hurt, so he lay down and fell asleep. When he
woke up he saw two big eyes looking at him, he got really scared and jump, there was a
little girl looking at him, she try to touch him, but Jack didn´t trust humans anymore.

The little girl saw how scared jack was, she also saw how skinny and hurt he was and feel
bad for him.

The little start coming back to where Jack was every day, she try to feed him but he didn't
want to eat when she was around, she let water and food for him and then she leave so he
would eat something, that happen for a few days.

Jack notices what the little girl was doing, one day when she arrived, he came out from
where he was hiding and look her very closely, she didn't seem harmful, but, how could he
trust here? after what happen with the two other humans, he just wanted to be with his
family again. The next day, when the little girl came back and left the food and water for
him, Jack decided to follow her, the little girl saw that Jack finally was starting to get better,
she took out a ball, she show it to jack and start throwing, jack, who at first wasn´t sure to
play start walking towards the ball, he pick it up and start playing with the little girl

Jack start feeling happy again, he start running and running with the little girl and the he
noticed, a butterfly, it look exactly like the one he follow when he got lost, Jack started
running, trying to cath her, hoping that maybe, this butterfly will guide him towards his
family, the little girl stay behind and saw how Jack was running towards the butterfly.

When he got tired, he stopped to rest and start looking around, for the first time in a long
time, he feel like he knew where he was, he saw far away, the farm where his family was
and start running and running, after everything he has been through finally, his home, his
family his brothers, all thanks to the little girl, who help him even knowing that she wouldn
´t get anything in return, he was happy again, and no one could take that away from him.
