Welcome to the dark side!

Witches, vampires, zombies and creatures of the night, welcome to this celebration,
the holiday of Halloween.

First, I have to tell, Halloween is not the day of the dead of another countries;
Halloween is an ancestral celebration with history of religion, paganism and scary
times.

Do you know the frase ‘All Hallow’s Eve’? That means honor to all the spirits that
‘enjoy life next to God’.
Halloween is related to the pagan festival Samhain, the end of the summer and the
welcomed to the shortest and coldest days of the year. Three days of celebration
that started on october 31.
Hogueras were a ritual tocelebrate the end of harvests.
The participation of kids included songs and praists to the souls of the deads. When
they finished, kids received cakes, in order to represent un alma del purgatory.

Between 1845 and 1849, Ireland was suffering difficult times and many people
emigrated to United States. The first sound of Halloween had a place in there.
Soon, the celebration suffered modifications and people introduced the use of the
pumpkin, the scarecrow and the customs.

México, as the neighbor of the United States started to celebrate with the traditional
‘Queremos calaverita’ instead of popular ‘trick or treat’, teenagers sometimes do
some jokes and adults still giving candies to kids.

There are many special legends around Halloween; one of the most populars one is
Jack O’ Lantern.
Presentación Jack O’Lantern
This is the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a drunkard who bargains with Satan and is
doomed to roam the Earth with only a hollowed turnip to light his way.

Participación Emmanuel:
They said that I was a lazy yet shrewd blacksmith who uses a cross to trap Satan.
Others told that I was getting chased by some villagers from whom I had stolen. But I
met Satan and let him go only if he never take my soul.
Of course, my life had been too sinful for me to go to Heaven; however, Satan had
promised me not to take my soul, and I was barred from Hell as well, but he
mockingly tossed me a burning coal, to light my way. I carved out one of his turnips,
put the coal inside it, and began endlessly wandering the Earth for a resting place.
Profesora para cerrar participación:
He became known as Jack o'lantern:

Jack o' the lantern! Joan the wad,

Who tickled the maid and made her mad

Light me home, the weather's bad.

A continuación, solicitamos a las criaturas de la noche a que luzcan sus garras,

colmillos y capas, pues llegó la hora de la pasarela de Halloween.
