Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is the most recommended evidence-based

treatment for trauma. This type of therapy focuses on working specifically with the
emotions of the patient. DBT helps people whose relationships are affected because
they find it difficult to manage strong emotions. If throughout your childhood your
parents or caregivers failed to pay attention to your emotions, you might struggle with
identifying and managing them. This could influence the way you relate with others,
and negatively affect your mental state. DBT claims that its mindfulness skills will help
the patient in distress to calm anxiety and stay in the present moment. It gives them
resources to make two choices to approach trauma, accepting their emotions or trying to
change them.
