Mario Vargas Llosa: The Peruvian Nobel.

In this composition my partner and I will talk about a man who is very well known both
internationally and in Peru for being one of the best contemporary writers, novelists and essayists.
He is from Arequipa. His name is Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa and here we will learn more
about his early life, family and his achievements to date.

Mario Vargas Llosa was born in Arequipa in 1936. He spent his childhood between Bolivia and the
Peruvian cities of Piura and Lima due to his parents' divorce and reconciliation. From the age of 14
to 16 he attended a military academy and after finishing it he began his literary and journalistic
career. Afterwards, he studied Literature and Law at the San Marcos de Lima University and began
to collaborate professionally in newspapers and magazines. Gradually, he achieved success and
fame with essays, articles and novels such as La Ciudad de los Perros, La Casa Verde, among
others. He also had a stint in Peruvian politics, where he was a presidential candidate in 1990. In
addition, it is worth mentioning that he has won numerous awards, the most important of which
are the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2010 and the Cervantes Prize in 1994.

In conclusion, we believe that this character has caused a turning point in Peruvian literature,
imposing himself with different recognitions with a great international weight. Through his essays,
novels and books, he has formed well-educated citizens with a critical spirit and aware of the
meaning of truth and lies.
