外国語を習う動機

私のサイトを見てくれている方から、なぜ私が英語を勉強し始めたのかという質問がありました。ご存知の方も
いると思いますが、私は日本で育ったので、英語は第二外国語になります。日本の学生は一般的に中学生になっ
たら、必須科目として英語を習い始めます。(現在では、もう少し早く始めていることも多いようです。)　学生
時代、私にとって英語はいつも好きな科目でした。でも、私の英語の先生はみんな日本人で、授業は文法や、読
み書きに重点を置いたものでした。もう少し大きくなって、私の映画好きから、字幕なしに映画を理解できるよ
うになりたいと強く思うようになりました。言語に関して、自分に興味のあることを結び付けられると、それが
とてもよい動機になると思います。映画での台詞が少しでも分かり始めると、本当にうれしかったものです。あ

Motivation for Learning a Language

One of the visitors on my site asked me why I studied English (though some people might know
that I grew up in Japan and English is my second language). Most Japanese students start learning
English when they are at junior high school as a mandatory subject (they seem to start earlier
nowadays). English was always my favorite subject at school. However, all my English teachers
were Japanese and the class was more focused on grammar, writing and reading. When I got
older, from my love of movies, I felt I really wanted to be able to understand English films without
the aide of subtitles. I think when you have something you are interested in relation to another
language, it could become a great motivational power.　It made me feel so good when I started
catching even little phrases in movies. What is your motivation for learning Japanese?
