He was a famous Peruvian scientist and he was a

medical student. He was born on August 13, 1857

and he was born in Cerro de Pasco, Peru. His

parents were Baltasar Carrion de Luque and

Dolores Garcia Navarro. When he is 14 years old,

he moved to the city of Lima. He studied in

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe school and he

graduated with excellent grades. He started

studying in 1874 and he finished in 1878.He studied

at the National University of San Marcos.

He is recognized for inoculating contaminated blood with the Bartonella bacilliformis

bacterium to contract the “Peruvian wart”. Carrion wrote his medical history until

September 26, 1885. He had a fever and anemia so his colleagues wrote the medical

history that he started. He died on October 5, 1885 and he died in Lima. At present, he

is considered a “martyr of Peruvian medicine” thanks to his sacrifice and heroic action.
