I. OBJECTIVES:

a. Use appropriate reading strategies to meet one’s purpose (e.g. scanning, skimming, close reading, etc.)

b. Determine words or expressions in a selection that are similar or opposite.
c. Use information presented in an article to infer, to evaluate, and to express critical ideas.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Appreciating Myself

References: Grade 7 Learner’s Material pp.

Grade 7 Teacher’s Guide pp. 5-6

Materials: print out of the selection

III. PROCEDURE:

A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Checking of attendance
2. Checking of assignment
3. Review of past lesson

B. Developmental Activities:
1. Motivation:

 Present some words and ask students to give its synonym and antonym.

2. Presentation:

 Call some students to answer the question.

 Have the students listen to three taped descriptions of Philippine folk literature twice.

3. Discussion/Analysis:

 Ask students to make inferences about what was listened to using the grid. (Task 2. What did
they say? LM pp.4)

4. Concept Formation/Generalization:
 How does the difference in voice levels and speech patterns affect our understanding?
 Does giving its synonym makes you understand more about it?

5. Application:
 Give students the selection “Words of Wisdom”
 Let students answer the activity Task 3. Similar or Opposite? LM pp. 4
 IV. EVALUATION
Using a dictionary, find the synonym and antonym of the following words:
1. Agreed
2. Comprehensive
3. Interact
4. Colonized
5. Ancestor

V. ASSIGNMENT
Make an advance reading on the next topic.
