Navigos Group is a company dedicated to help people and companies achieve their
dreams through its professional recruiting services. Its main portfolio of companies are
the leading players in the recruitment industry in Vietnam. The group is comprised of
www.VietnamWorks.com, an online recruitment portal and Navigos Search, an
executive search firm. Through 18 years of operating in Vietnam, Navigos Group’s

greatest asset is the largest and most comprehensive database of Vietnamese
professionals. Known for its strong service culture and people-centric management, the
group has maintained the status as the leading recruiting service in Vietnam since
foundation in 2002 (Navigos Group website, 2021).
Role

You are working as a newly appointed, Trainee Executive Search Consultant. Part of
your role is using social media platforms to contact and recruit potential clients and
employees for your clients to meet their brief. Understanding leadership and
management skills and competencies is crucial to your role, as you will be reviewing
CVs and filtering applicants, and interviewing and assessing their skills to see if they are
the best fit for the job.

Assignment activity and guidance


As a new trainee, you are to complete onboarding training to help you understand
leadership and management in action. As part of this onboarding process, you have
been asked to undertake a case study report for an organization. Focusing on a large
organization of your choice, critically evaluate their leadership and management
theories, their impact on decision making and the factors that influence their
organizational culture. The research of additional business examples should be used to
assist your analysis and evaluation.

Business activities to inform your report will include the following.

 Conducting research into leadership and management concepts, theories and


their application in the workplace in order to analyse the effectiveness of
leadership and management in the given organization.
 Comparing at least two other organizational examples to compare the different
styles of leadership and management approaches taken for a range of business
situations and how they impact decisions taken.
 Examination of different leadership and management approaches taken to
evaluate their effectiveness and the impact that the role of leadership and
management has on organizational culture and performance.

Your report should contain the followings:

1. Leadership and management concepts:


 Define the key concepts: leader & manager/ leadership & management
 Discuss the key skills and competences of effective leader & manager
 Differentiate: leadership and management
2. Leadership and management theories in relation to organizational
effectiveness:
 Discuss concisely various leadership & management theories with real-life

application examples (one of the examples must be the chosen company).
 (M1) Analyze the positive and negative impacts of applying leadership and
management theories on the organizational performance/effectiveness in
the previous examples.
 (D1) Based on the above analysis, critically evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of different leadership and management theories then make
recommendations on how to further improve the performance of the
example organizations.
3. Leadership and management styles and organizational culture:
 Leadership and management styles:
o Discuss different leadership and management styles with examples of
different large organizations (one of the examples must be the
chosen company).

styles would impact on decision making in the example organizations.
 Cultures of organizations:
o Discuss different types of organizational cultures with examples of
different large organizations (one of the examples must be the
chosen company).
o Identify and explain various factors influencing the development of
organizational culture in organizations.
o (M3) Evaluate the importance of organizational culture on
organizational performance in the example organizations.
 (D1) Critically evaluate importance of leadership and management styles in
setting and embedding organizational culture.
