work?
4)What is the topic of your research interest? Why and how would you investigate it?
5)How does the topic of the programme contribute to your personal development and to the development of your
professional expertise?

In addition, applicants for the double degree option are expected to state the reasons why they would like to study also at
the University of Regensburg.

The maximum number of characters for the Letter of Motivation is 4000.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Education is my top priority in my professional pursuit and it is also my life-long interest.
Hence, I’m writing this letter to state my strong motivation for applying to the Master program
in Learning, Learning Environments and Educational Systems at the University of Turku. I will
demonstrate that, with my educational background and working experience, I will be an
excellent candidate for the programme.
I set my mind to be a good teacher at my very young age. Since then, I have been
determinined and persistent to finish my goal. For my university study, I decided to major in
Teaching English As a Foreign Language with the hope that I can improve the field of English
education in Vietnam. English is a global language and my students will be able to broaden
their world and connect with people from every corner of the world, to be able to understand
the rich cultures around the world, and be more educated world citizen. In 2013, I enrolled in
the Ho Chi Minh City Open University in their joint Master’s program in Education with a
focus in TESOL with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. .
After graduating from the Master Programme, I decided to teach at the University of Phan
Thiet with a hope of contributing to the education of my hometown. At the University of Phan
Thiet, I have been working with really motivated students, many of whom also cherish a
dream of being a teacher. I am happy to inspire them with my passion for education.
However, I soon realized that my knowledge and methodologies need updating as training
the young generations in Vietnam nowadays requires much more than a love for teaching, a
well-prepared lesson plan or effective instructional skills. Therefore, learning from Finland,
which has advanced educational systems, particularly effective language classrooms, and
bringing the achieved experience back to Vietnam to build a cornerstone for Vietnamese
education is my motive in applying for the Mater programme.
Being a student of the programme will enable me to deeply investigate cognitive and
motivational issues as well as processes of learning. Hence, I can have more effective
instructional approaches for different types of learners. Besides, I will also be trained to make
use of technology to assist teaching and learning, which I believe can make a revolution to
Vietnam’s current language education. In addition, examining the influences of outside-school
factors on learning as well as creating a network of researchers all over the world are also
what I can benefit from the programme.
Another reason why I chose the proramme is that I have deep interest in investigating if
language teachers can use their identities to enhance their students’ learning. Language
Teacher’s Identity is a complicated research topic that includes every aspect of a teacher like
beliefs, knowledge, experience, life styles, attitudes, race, gender and so on. As teachers
play a signigicant role in classroom practice, it is very interesting to look into Language
Teacher’s Identity in terms of its formation, structure and influence. In order to do this, a
combination of qualitative research and case study should be carried out. I believe that once I
am guided by the experienced, eminent professors of the Falcuty of Education and of the

University of Turku generally, I can definitely conduct a successful research and achieve
reliable findings. With my research findings as well as my knowledge and experience
obtained from the Master programme, I will contribute to the development of education in
Vietnam and the world.
I hope that my strong motivation, educational and professional background as well as my
clear research intention can convince you to choose me so that I can fulfill my dream of
educating more and more, better and better world citizens.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely

Huynh Thi Thu Thuy
