1.

The air conditioning system temperature is controlled by two electrical

subsystems. Each system is controlled by independent sets of switches on the air
conditioning panel. The cabin subsystem controls air generated by the cabin pack
and the flight compartment subsystem controls air generated by the flight
compartment pack. The temperature can be controlled either automatically or
manually. If the system is in auto mode and the cabin rotary switch is in flight
attendant (F/A) position, the cabin temperature can also be controlled through the
flight attendant control switch. If one of the two packs fail, air is supplied to cabin and
flight compartment by the remaining pack. A temperature gage on the air
conditioning panel allows monitoring of cabin temperature as well as cabin or flight
compartment air ducts.

2. When the PACKS switches are set to AUTO, the digital channel in control opens
the pack flow control and shutoff valve, whereas the pack bypass shutoff valves and
the turbine shutoff valves of the air cycle machines are controlled by their associated
ECS channel. This starts the packs to supply cold air. The ECU modulates the pack
bypass valves to add warm air to the cool air coming out of the turbines, based on
the settings of the CABIN and FLIGHT COMPARTMENT temperature selectors. In
AUTO mode, the temperature control is based on feedback indication from the zone
temperature sensors. A full cool selection targets a compartment temperature of
15°C and a full warm selection targets 27°C. When the PACKS switch is set to
MANUAL, the control is based on the duct supply temperatures where full cool
targets 2.8°C and full warm targets 71°C. When the PACKS switches are set to OFF
this closes the pack flow control and shutoff valves, the turbine shutoff valves, and
the pack bypass valves, resulting in shutting down the packs.

3. The CABIN temperature selector on the AIR CONDITIONING control panel has a
switch at the full counter clockwise "Flight Attendant" position. In this position, the
flight attendant’s control panel is enabled and is indicated by the "FLIGHT
ATTENDANT CONTROL ENABLED" light on the flight attendant’s control panel.
This indicates the flight attendant has control of the cabin temperature selections.
The cabin compartment temperatures can be regulated again from the flight deck by
rotating the CABIN selector knob out of the FLIGHT ATTENDANT position.
