Section A: Answer all given questions
QA1 15 marks Time 17 min
a- Design 6 bit DAC using Resistive Ladder Network. Find the output if the logic one voltage is +5V and the
input pattern is 110010

QA2 20 marks Time 26 min

a. What are the advantages of incremental encoder over absolute encoder?
b. To measure position using incremental encoder, how many channels are required?
c. Draw the circuit diagram that can resolve the rotation direction of incremental encoder and
draw its input signal wave form.

QA3 15 marks Time 17 min

a- Assume an event with minimum and maximum frequency of 50 Hz and 10 kHz respectively, a clock of
1MHz is used and 4 bit counter is available. Answer the following:
b- (a) How many cascaded counters can be used to measure the event period without counter overflow?
c- (b) What is the minimum and maximum error percentage in measuring the period for that event?
d- (c) What is the maximum clock frequency that can be used to increase the period measurement accuracy
using the same number of counters?
e- (d) What is the minimum and maximum error percentage in measuring the period for that event using the
calculated clock frequency in the (c)?

QA4 20 marks Time 26

min
1- Assume Low voltage side sensor used to measure AC current of maximum 5 A (rms) with
R shunt=0.01Ω . and the bus voltage is 110 V

a- Design (draw the circuit diagram and find resistance values) op-amp circuit to supply -12V to
+12V bipolar ADC.
b- Find the sensor error % at maximum load current.

the Nyquist frequency and the case at which the sampling frequency is higher than the Nyquist
frequency.

QB2 15 marks Time 17
