Agents of Socialization
● Family:
● Sociological research indicates that wealthy
parents tend to encourage creativity in their
children while poor parents tend to foster
conformity. Although this general difference
may be valid, parents at all class levels can
and do provide loving support and guidance
by simply involving themselves in their
children’s lives..
Agents of Socialization

4. Social Stratification
● Social Stratification: a system by which a
society ranks categories of people in a
hierarchy, is based on four important
principles:
○ Social stratification is a trait of society, not
simply a reflection of individual differences.
○ Social stratification carries over from
generation to generation
○ Social stratification is universal but variable.
○ Social stratification involves not just
inequality but beliefs as well.

dead

discovery, or contact with other societies.
