MOVIE – SING (2016)
Activity #2
Movie Review

Make a brief reaction paper of the movie

Sing is a 2016 musical comedy animated film directed by Garth Jennings. Set in a world of humanoid animals, the film
revolves around the hardworking koala called Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey). Buster runs a historic theater that
hasn't been doing well financially (in quite some time). However, Buster is incredibly confident that he can save it if he
holds a singing competition. Tons of animals are eager to audition when the $1,000 prize money is accidentally touted as
$100,000. Despite not having the promised reward money, Buster is adamant about continuing. A number of talented
misfits then ambitiously pursue their dreams by joining in the competition.

Sing is one of my go-to movies. I love the characters, the animations, the songs, the plot itself. I especially love Buster
Moon and his positivity, how he was optimistic even at the most difficult of times. I also admire how each character was
able to face their fears and insecurities in order to pursue and achieve their goals. The movie was also full of jokes and
fun dialogues to enjoy. Overall, I found the movie to be entertaining, inspiring, even emotional. I love it as an adult, so I am
pretty sure that kids would love it as well. It’s the perfect movie to watch with your family and/or friends.

Benefits/realization gained
from watching the movie

Watching Sing made me feel inspired and

emotional, especially about Buster Moon. I love
how the movie showed that someone who is as
optimistic as him would eventually feel lost and
defeated in life. It reminded me that it is okay to
show weakness and vulnerability and that you
don’t have to appear strong or happy all the
time. But, it also reminded me how our positivity
can affect others–at our lowest, the people we
have inspired will also be the ones to help us get
back up. We don’t realize how much we impact
someone’s life until they impact ours.
Is watching a movie a
worthwhile recreational
activity? Why or Why not?

Watching a movie is a worthwhile recreational

activity because it allows us to share our
thoughts and feelings with those who watched
with us. It encourages conversation among the
viewers and provides an immersive experience by
allowing them to express similar or varying
reactions (e.g. laughing at a funny scene or crying
at an emotional scene). Watching a movie with
others is not only a fun or memorable experience,
but is also a way for us to get to know each
other.
