ACTIVITY 3. Describing Qualitative Designs

1. Phenomenology

 The philosophy of experience is known as phenomenology. The ultimate source of all meaning
and value, according to phenomenology, is human beings' lived experience. All philosophical
systems, scientific theories, and aesthetic judgements are abstractions from the experienced
world's ebb and flow.

2. Ethnography

 Ethnography is a field of anthropology that studies particular cultures in a methodical manner.

Ethnography investigates cultural processes through the eyes of the research subject.

3. Grounded Theory
 Grounded theory is a systematic approach to qualitative research that has been widely used by
social scientists. The process entails the collection and analysis of data in order to build
hypotheses and theories. Inductive reasoning is used in the development of grounded theory.

4. Historical Studies

 Historical studies look at events and people from the near or distant past in relation to the ideas,
institutions, social norms, cultural practices, and physical surroundings that shaped them.

5. Case study

 A case study is a comprehensive, in-depth investigation of a specific situation in a real-world

setting. Case studies in medicine, for example, may concentrate on a single patient or condition;
case studies in psychology may concentrate on a group of people.

6. Action Research

 In the social sciences, action research is a research theory and approach. It aims for
transformational change by combining action and research with critical contemplation.

7. Narrative Inquiry

 To investigate societal patterns, narrative inquiry employs tales. At the heart of narrative inquiry
are stories from participants as well as stories created by researchers using information
gathered from participants. Narrative inquiry is a term used to describe the study of life history
and biography.
