REQUIREMENT:

PeTa (Creation of Permanent Slides using nail polish as substitute for Canada Balsam Synthetic Medium)

MATERIALS NEEDED: BY GROUP


• Specimens
• Laboratory gown (kindly borrow or invest)
• any bottle for the specimens
• glass slide (4 per group), cover slips (4 per group)
• forceps or tweezers
• Rag (round)
• colorless nail polish
• facial tissue or cloth
• alcohol (70 percent, isopropyl)
• toothpick
• slide box or Microscope Plastic Slide Mailer
• Old newspapers or magazines (1 per group)
• 4 extension cords (per class)
• 1 adapter (see photo in gdrive slides)

SPECIMENS:
1. Pollen (from any flower) - 1 flower with pollen per group will do
2. Wing/s of a fruit fly - 2 fruit flies per group
3. Human hair strand (white) – 2 strands
4. Letter e (printed) – font size “5”, font style “arial” – 3 printed letter e

REMINDERS:

1. It's up to you if you want to bring extra specimens, glass slides and cover slips for buffer.
You will just submit 1 slide per specimen.
2. Collect the fly dead or alive. Better to collect them a day before the experiment day. However, it's ok to collect ahead
of time if its not possible (a day before the experiment day).
3. Check the excel file for groupings. Kindly look for me in school if you have queries about the groupings.
