WRITTING 1: A film review

Laura María Calvo Sanz

The film that I want to talk about is called “Miss Peregrine Home for Peculiar

Children”. It was released in 2016, being directed by Tim Burton and stars Asa

Butterfield in the main role (who also appears in “Boy in the striped pyjamas”

and “Ender´s Game”) and the famous actress Eva Green in the role of Miss

Peregrine (who also appears in films like “Dreamers” or “300, the rise of an

Empire).

The plot presents us a young boy, Jacob Portman, whose grandfather has died in

strange circumstances. Jacob remembers the stories that he told him about his

childhood, because he was grown in an orphanage on a remote island in Wales.

Jacob travels there to look for clues, and discovers that the orphanage is a magic

place, regent by a lady who can turn herself into a hawk and can turn back time

to repeat again and again the same day to protect all the children with peculiar

abilities living there.

I would highly recommend this film if you like adventure or fantasy films. It

also is based in a book written by Ramson Riggs, and has a second part that isn't

adapted to the screens yet, called “Hollow City”.
