ATMOSPHERE

 Gaseous layer that surrounds the earth.

 Without it there could be no life on Earth.
 The main gases are:
- Nitrogen 78%
- Oxygen 21%
- Carbon Dioxide 1%
 It reaches more than 500 km above the surface of the planet.

Their functions are:

- Contains the air we breathe.

- Protects life from harmful radiation from the sun.
- Helps prevent the planet's heat from the sun from escaping into space.
- It is an important element of the water cycle.
- Maintains the climate on Earth.

Divides into five layers based on temperature

- Troposphere
- Stratosphere
- Mesosphere
- Thermosphere
- Exosphere

Troposphere

- Layer closest to the earth.

- It extends between zero and twelve kilometers.
- Originate atmospheric phenomena.
- Contains 90% of the entire atmosphere.
- Layer where planes fly.

Stratosphere

- It is located between twelve and fifty kilometers.

- There is the ozone layer that prevents the passage of ultraviolet rays directly
to the earth.

Mesosphere

- It is located between fifty and eighty kilometers

- Reaches a temperature of 90°C.
- Destroy meteorites and transform them into shooting stars.

Thermosphere

- It is located between eighty and seven hundred kilometers.

- It reaches a temperature of a 1000° C.
- Filters out part of the sun's radiation.

Exosphere

- It is over a thousand kilometers.

- The highest layer is extremely thin and is where the atmosphere merges with
outer space.
- Here we find military meteorology and satellite communication.

Why is the atmosphere important?

If the atmosphere did not exist, life on this planet would be impossible since the
gases in the air are vital for life on Earth: humans and animals cannot survive
without oxygen (respiration) and green plants cannot survive without dioxide
carbon (photosynthesis).

¿How do human beings damage the atmosphere?

Human activity, as well as natural phenomena such as

volcanic eruptions, pollute the air with gases and solid
particles that cause damage to the environment and the refore to people, animals
and things immersed in it.

¿How can we protect the atmosphere?

-Do not use sprays

-Do not spill oil derivatives, in water, or in forests.
-Do not throw garbage in public places or in water sources.
-Do not spill chemicals or combustion of petroleum derivatives such as
plastics, paints, tires, etc.
- Fossil fuels should not be used in automobiles.
