Heart of Darkness is a cinematic platform video game developed by Amazing Studios
and published by Ocean Software in Europe and Interplay Entertainment in North
America for the PlayStation and Microsoft Windows. A Game Boy Advance port was
announced in 2001 but it was never released.

The game places players in the role of a child named Andy as he attempts to rescue
his dog who has been kidnapped by creatures known as The Dark Souls. The game has
about half an hour of storytelling cinematic sequences, thousands of 2D animated
frames, and uses pre-rendered background scenery. The game was supervised by game
developer �ric Chahi, known for Another World, this time with a team of artists and
developers. The game also features an original score by film and television
composer Bruce Broughton.

Gameplay[edit]
Heart of Darkness is a cinematic platformer in the vein of Eric Chahi's previous
game Another World in which players control Andy, who faces various dangers in
search of his dog, Whiskey. Players progress through the game's linear storyline by
navigating various environments and solving puzzles, all whilst attempting to keep
Andy from being killed by evil shadows, hungry wildlife, and perilous obstacles.
Along with basic movement, such as running, jumping, and climbing, certain sections
of the game give Andy additional abilities. The plasma cannon allows Andy to shoot
lightning at shadows in order to disintegrate them. Magic energy, which can also be
used offensively against enemies, can additionally be used to grow and destroy
trees born from seeds. The player has unlimited tries, with Andy returning to the
most recent checkpoint when he is killed.

Plot[edit]
Andy is a boy who hates his abusive teacher, loves his dog Whiskey, and has
nyctophobia (fear of darkness). One day, Andy and Whiskey head for the park. A
solar eclipse occurs while they're there. During the eclipse, Whiskey is taken away
by an unseen creature. Andy then rushes to his treehouse, where he keeps his
inventions, and jumps inside a spaceship to find Whiskey. He takes off and finds
himself in the Darklands, which is a portion of the Heart of Darkness. Inhabited by
creatures of the night and ruled over by an evil sorcerer that's known as the
Master of Darkness, the Darklands are extremely dangerous. Andy must find it in
himself in order to rescue Whiskey and find a way home.

Andy collides his spaceship into a winged shadow creature and crashes in a canyon
on the outskirts of the Darklands. Here, his gun is eaten by a giant monster. Andy
manages to escape into the swamps, only to run into more danger while unarmed.
Meanwhile, the Master of Darkness is abusing his servant when a winged shadow
arrives with a sack that has Whiskey in it. Angered by the mistake (the shadow was
supposed to capture Andy), the Master of Darkness kills the shadow and takes his
anger out on his servant by throwing him at a spiked wall. However, the monster
that swallowed Andy's gun appears, accidentally saving the servant, and explains
Andy being in the Darklands. The Master of Darkness then orders his minions to
search the Darklands for him.

Deep in the swamp, Andy saves a winged creature that's named Amigo that starts to
carry him to his home island, but is dazed by a fireball that was thrown from a
winged shadow and drops Andy into a lake. At the bottom of the lake, Andy comes
across a magic rock that grants him the power to manipulate plants and destroy
enemies. After resurfacing, Andy is rescued once again by Amigo, who takes Andy
back to his home and introduces him to his people. Andy wins their approval by
creating an apple tree for them. The Amigos then agree to hide Andy in their
village, but the shadows attack and destroy the village when night falls. However,
Andy manages to slip away. After reuniting with the Amigos, Andy witnesses an Amigo
fall to the evil ground, and becomes a winged shadow within contact. Andy convinces
the Amigos to obtain the magic rock's power and wage war on the Master of Darkness.

With their newfound powers the Amigos help Andy slip into the Master of Darkness's
lair. While in there, Andy is captured and thrown into a cell with Whiskey, but
manages to escape and free Whiskey. Meanwhile, the Master of Darkness's minions
have found the magic rock and bring it to the Master, who destroys it, thus
draining Andy and the Amigos' powers. Unarmed once again, Andy can only run from
the shadows. While fleeing, he accidentally falls into a hole and lands on top of
the giant monster, who promptly swallows Andy whole. However, he is able to escape
by obtaining his gun from the monster's stomach and blasting him in half from
within. He then encounters the servant and forces him to help defeat the Master of
Darkness and find Whiskey. The servant tells Andy that the only way to defeat the
Master of Darkness is to drop the completed magic rock into the dark portal. Andy
then searches for the fragments of the rock in order to reform it. He manages to
obtain all but one piece, which is laying on the bridge near the portal. While Andy
is fighting his way to the bridge, the servant betrays Andy by kicking Whiskey into
the portal.

After fighting countless shadows and dodging several fire blasts that are thrown by
the Master of Darkness, Andy makes it to the bridge and obtains the final piece.
The Amigos then tie up the servant and lower the rock onto the bridge, crushing the
servant in the process. Ignoring the Master of Darkness's claim that everyone will
be killed if he does so, Andy connects the final piece of rock, which then falls
into the portal, which begins destroying the castle and the platform that the
Master of Darkness floats on. He then falls into the portal, but manages to take
Andy with him.

They find themselves in the main area of the Heart of Darkness, where they battle.
Andy wins the fight and then hears the sound of a door opening, only to see red
eyes approaching. He prepares to strike, but lights come on from Andy's mother,
revealing that the eyes are Whiskey, and they are in Andy's tree house...the whole
thing was in Andy's imagination. Andy's mother calls them to dinner. After being
kissed goodnight by his mother, Andy taunts Whiskey's fear of the dark a bit and
then turns the nightlight off, revealing that he has conquered his fear of the dark
thanks to his make-believe journey. The scene then shows the Amigos finding the
wreckage of Andy's ship, with the servant also there tied up, being harassed,
revealing that Andy's adventure was not imaginary.

Heart of Darkness suffered a protracted development cycle marked by numerous delays
and changes in platform. Development began in 1992, with the PC as the lead
platform.[1] A version for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer was announced, but the
game spent so long in development that by the time it was finished, the 3DO (which
was not even launched until a year after development on the game began) was no
longer commercially viable. In 1996 Sega signed a deal for the console version to
be a Sega Saturn exclusive, with the PC version to be held off until after the
Saturn version was released.[1] A release date of October 1996 was announced with
the Saturn version,[1] but due to long delays, the Saturn was also no longer a
commercially viable platform by the time Heart of Darkness was finished.

The game was released with a pair of red/blue 3D glasses, allowing players to watch
a 3D FMV sequence at the end of the game. Despite the game featuring gruesome
character deaths, the game received the lowest age ratings in its initial releases
in North America and Europe, although some later editions received an increased
rating.

Welcome to my guide to Heart of Darkness on Sony Playstation. I am Syonyx,


and I wanted to produce this guide to provide some help through the sometimes
frustrating sections of this graphical platform adventure. The game contains
many puzzles requiring patience, determination, and experimentation. Other
parts of the game aren't about figuring out a solution, but just surviving an
onslaught of enemies, where one wrong move means restarting several screens
back. Having played the game through a few times, I wanted to share my
experience to help others to make it through without the same increase in
blood pressure it can sometimes cause. I hope I have been successful in this
venture. If you want to let me know what you think, or have any general

This guide was written primarily for GameFAQS.com, which still needed a guide
for this game with punctuation, but you may end up seeing it elsewhere over

First of all, you should just look at the game manual. But in case you don't
have one, or you're just lazy, here you go:

Directional buttons: Move


X: Jump / Select menu options
O: Fire 1
Triangle: Fire 2
Square: Run

JUMPING
Jump in place: X

ANDY
Our hero. Clocking in at about 8 years old, Andy's courage in rescuing his
best friend is unquestionable. Along the way, he'll make some new friends and
reveal his devotion to doing whatever it takes to help them out.

WHISKEY
Andy's loyal canine companion. He gets kidnapped by the forces of darkness,
prompting a rescue by his master.

MASTER OF DARKNESS
Lord of the dark realm, and utterly humorless. The full extent of his powers
is unknown, but he demands obedience and won't tolerate failure by his
minions.

SERVANT
Looking an awful lot like the bad guys from The Raccoons cartoon (anyone
remember that?), this creature lacks a proper name. But he's so slimy that he
probably doesn't deserve one.

AMIGOS
As far as we know, the only friendly residents of the darklands. These goofy
flyers make up for their lack of intellect with their good-hearted nature.

SHADOWS
-Regular: These mostly ground-based troopers make up the bulk of the shadow
arme. Their slightly malleable forms allow them to flap in the air over short
distances. They can grapple Andy and keep him from firing unless he manages
to shake them off, or they can just grab him and swallow him.
-Flying: These true flyers have the added deadly ability of throwing fireballs
in any direction.
-Crawling: These shadow dogs slink in low places waiting to grab unsuspecting
boys. You can only shoot them firing low to the ground.

DARK ELITE
-Giants: Well, they're giant, able to swallow boys in a single gulp. Their
skin is tough as nails, too, so firing on them won't do a thing.
-Armored warriors: Apparently made of ooze, since they dissolve into blobs of
goo when destroyed. These blobs will re-form into 2 new warriors if not
destroyed in time. Capable of shooting fireballs straight ahead or along the
ground.

How to live:

From the ship, you can only make one move: jump! Press X to achieve this,
then get used to the basic controls over the next couple of screens. You can
do either a walking or running jump across the first gap in the path. On the
next screen, shoot the skeletal dinosaur head hanging down with your home-made
plasma cannon, or else it's shadow will get you. This is, of course, after
crouching to shoot the slinking shadow coming at you along the ground. Shoot
the hanging skeleton ahead on the next screen too. Next, you get grabbed by a
ghoulie (wait, that's a different game), and you have to shake him off.
Alternate pressing left and right to thrust him off, then immediately shoot
him.

Now comes the fun part. Shoot the giant snake head on the top right of the
screen to break down the wall. A lot of shadows start pouring out. Stand
your ground near the left side and shoot them, alternating between straight
and crouching shots, will diagonal and overhead shots to hit the flying
shadows that come across the screen at you. Once you clear a wave, run to the
next screen. Here, repeat your shooting strategy, staying a couple steps in
from the left side, but also periodically shoot behind you to get the shadows
creeping up there. When it seems like you've cleared them all, continue
forward. Next, there are running shadow dogs that are immune to your plasma
cannon. You must somersault (double jump) over them. There are 4 in total.
Then, shoot the other shadows and keep on going. Next you'll encounter a 2-
level screen with a bone ladder in the middle. A shadow will come out on top
and will bang the ground, shaking you off your feet. Jump when he does this
and shoot him before he does it again. Climb the ladder to take the top path.

After the giant shadows break through the wall, run past them to the right.
Stop running, but keep walking, as you cross the narrow rock bridge, with a
shadow close behind you. At the end of the bridge, hold the run button while
finishing crossing, and keep running until the shadow gets vaporized in the
sunlight ahead. Weaponless, hopeless, girlfriend-less, continue onward
anyway.

Follow the lizard up the wall. Jump where he does across the gap in the wall,
and lower yourself to the ledge on the far side. Remember to hold the jump
button so that you'll grab onto something when you jump. At the end of the
ledge, climb the wall again and jump right, then up. When you're on the ledge
with the giant spine going down the left side of the screen, jump in place on
the ledge a couple times to break it, then climb up. Climb up the ribcage of
the skeleton. In his head, quickly jump out the front to grab the rocks
before the jaws close on you. Above, climb until you break the long bone,
then push it over and cross it to climb up the other side.

How to live:

Walk ahead from the top of the hill where you start. Jump to the hanging vine
to open the path ahead. Hop to the rocks to reach the next screen. Here,
stand on the edge and jump in place to grab the swinging vine, then press jump
again to drop off the far side. Wait until the purple mantrap is chewing one
of the fireflies that go by before jumping across it. Climb the tree and
follow the branch forward. Jump to the swinging vine, then to the next, then
jump off at the end of the swing to get launched to dry ground again.

Now its safe to walk through the swamp water. As you do so, note that the
depth changes. In the deeper areas, duck down to avoid getting scooped up by
the flying shadows that are hunting for you. Keep ducking whenever you reach
a deep area, and wait for them to move before plowing ahead to the next spot
as quickly as possible (unfortunately, you can't run in this stuff). On the
far side, quickly pass through the sunlight so the shadows can't follow.

Ahead, climb the grey rocks and take the first landing to the right. From
there, run and jump to the black thing hanging down; it's a man trap that's
blocking the way overhead. Continue to the right along the ground to enter a
cave. Wait for the mantrap to eat a firefly, and while he's chewing, jump
under the green glowing globe (that's alliteration, that is) to release a
bunch of fireflies. This will illuminate the way above. Go back to the grey
rocks and climb up to the next screen. Cross the top to enter the top portion
of the same cave. When the lower mantrap eats a firefly, run and jump across
the gap (the upper mantrap will miss you) and keep going right. In the next
screen, wait for the middle mantrap to eat a bug, then grab the swinging vine
and jump in front of him, then immediate run the rest of the way through the
cave.

When you're hanging upside down, start swinging back and forth. Andy will
grab the stick on the left and use it to defend himself from the giant swamp
monster. Keep swimming to the right until you reach land. Climb the tree at
the end of the path all the way up. When you see someone in trouble, jump to
the rope to unleash some sunlight. You made a new friend!

~ 3. UNDERWATER ADVENTURE ~

How to live:

Swim straight downward and touch the glowing rock. Swim to the right along
the bottom next and enter the cave. Follow it upward until you get out of the
water, then practice using your new energy powers, especially using a powered
energy blast to knock down the rocks blocking the tunnel (press triangle).
Walk ahead and note that you're kicking a seed in front of you. Once it
reaches the wall, shoot with a powered energy blast (press triangle and down),
then climb the plant you made and jump to the high ledge. In the room with
the pink mushrooms, drop down to kick the seed across the water (it floats),
then shoot it to make it sprout once its on the far side. Climb the mushrooms
on the wall and jump across to the plant, climb up it and go to the next
screen.

Jump in the water and swim down. The sea plant sucks water in, and you with
it if possible, so stay on the right side and angle away from the plant to get
past it. Below, swim past the anemone once their tentacles retract. Get a
breath of air up top and continue down to the left. Stay along the bottom and
go down to avoid the three sea suckers. Keep on swimming until you reach
another three. These are tougher to avoid getting sucked in. Try to swim
horizontally under the right one, then up and to the left past the top one.
Go down after this and follow the tunnel to reach a spot of air, then return
and go up. Get past three sets of anemone to reach a breathing spot above.

To get past the plant and mantrap, note that the bubbles from the plant go up,
indicating that it's blowing, not sucking (tee hee hee!), so start swimming
across its top so you won't get shot up into the mantrap. Next, you have to
swim without stopping past all of the anemone. Watch the pattern of their
tentacles to know when to start swimming (you want to swim so that you reach
the second set of tentacles just as they're retracting). After that, climb up
out of the water.

On dry land, you now have to get past a bunch of mantraps. If you shoot them
with powered energy, you can stun them momentarily (of course, it's too much
to ask to kill them). Shoot the first one at the top, then jump right and
hang onto the mushrooms. Shoot the bottom right mantrap while hanging, then
jump to the right past him and fall down the hole, but hold the jump button to
grab onto rocks below. You now have to shoot the giant grubs. One good spot
is to hang at the top center, and be ready to shoot directly below as grubs
emerge from that spot to suck you into the wall. Shoot them once to inflate,
then a second time to send them off. Drop through the hole at the bottom left
after dispatching 3 grubs.

How to live:

Below, you enter a large puzzle area. First, go left. Shoot the shadows with
normal energy blasts. Next, shrink the plant with a powered energy blast,
then do another to stun the mantrap, then another to re-grow the plant, and
climb up it before the mantrap recovers. Above, push the boulder over, then
run from far back past the upper mantrap. In the next room, shoot the grubs.
This can be tricky, since they hide when you're firing. Just stay at the side
and shoot kind of randomly when they're popping out. Once they're clear,
climb down at the pink mushrooms. Below, get into the water and swim to the
right. There's a slight current going that way. At the end of the tunnel, in
the room where you started here, push the rock out, so that the current will
float the seed over to the pedestal, then quickly swim back and climb up where
you got in before the piranha get you. Go back up and around, remembering to
run past the mantrap in the ceiling.

Jump down where the plant is and run immediately right before the mantrap
notices you. Go right to the starting room. Shoot the far plant to reduce it
to a seed again, then go back left, shoot the plant and then the mantrap in
the wall again. This time, kick the seed to the right (you can kick it to the
wall then back again), and push it into the water. It'll float over and
displace the other seed on the small platform in the water. Now, grow both
seeds (the lower one by shooting diagonally) and jump across both plants.
From the second plant, on the right side, climb down and stand on the left
edge of the platform. Shoot the plant right beside you (you may need to shoot
upwards to hit it), and kick the seed to the right. In the next room, you
should now have a seed on both platforms. Shoot the first one to grow it,
then jump to the plant, and shoot the second seed while hanging from it (be
off the ground, of the piranha will jump and eat you). Climb the second plant
through the ceiling.

Above, shoot and stun the mantrap on the left, then climb up on the left side
and stun the other one hiding above on the right. Climb up past it. Above,
you have to shoot each mantrap in turn, and get past it before it recovers.
You have to shoot them all diagonally from just below them. Once you reach
the ledge, immediately start firing on the shadows there, both above you and
to the left. Go left and climb up in the corner of that screen.

Above, in a larger cave, there are a heck of a lot of shadows that come after
you, too many to fight. Run left, and grow the seed where it lay along the
ground in the next room. Quickly climb it and go left, then shoot the few
shadows up where you are. From this ledge, you can shoot the shadows below by
firing diagonally downward. Once they're clear, drop down and continue left.
Shoot the shadows, then climb the rocks on the left side and continue. Walk
slowly across the stone bridge to meet up with your old friend Amigo.

How to live:

This is a hard area to get used to. From start, head left a little bit, then
spend some time picking off flying shadows by firing energy right and
diagonally up. Duck under fireballs shot straight across at you, and jump
over ones fired diagonally from the air. You can't get rid of all of the
enemies, so just clear some room and run to the right. There, shoot some more
flying shadows and some regular grounded ones too, again watching out for
fireballs (dodge them in the same way). When you can, run right again. Cross
the bridge and it'll collapse, but that's okay, you want that to happen.

Hanging from the bridge, go down a bit and shoot the flying shadow that comes
down on the right. You could wait for him to come alongside you and just
shoot straight out if that's easiest for you. Climb down, and jump right from
the bottom, grabbing onto the lattice on the rocks there. Go right and shoot
two grubs, then jump to the bottom right roots in the rock wall. On the next
screen, shoot the bone formation with a powered energy blast to keep its
shadow from knocking you off the wall. From the bone ledge, jump to the
swinging vine. Jump off the far side and shoot the pair of shadows and climb
the short ladder. You can't climb the plant here because of the shadows it
creates on the wall, so shrink it and kick the seed right until you're clear
of the cliff wall, then re-grow and climb it.

Jump to the cliff wall again and climb up and to the right, avoiding the
shadow of the large root. Above, use a powered shot to stun the left tree
root and climb past it. Above, take out a few grubs and continue upward, just
avoiding the root here. Above, deal with a couple grubs on your way up and to
the left. On the screen with a hanging boulder, just go up again. (If you
fall anywhere here, just hold the jump button to grab onto rocks down below).
Deal with more grubs, and stun the tree roots to get to the bottom right side,
then climb down to the ledge by the hanging boulder. Have your shadow push
the boulder's shadow by walking to the right, and then shoot the flying
shadows that come out from the right (duck and jump the fireballs as before,
from the edge of the ledge so that when you jump you won't just grab the rock
wall and get fried).

Now you can return to the screen where the flying shadows were previously
trapped and climb up through the opening in the bottom of that area (to get
off the screen with the boulder, you can just jump down and grab the rock wall
on the next screen below, then climb back right and up). Inside the
enclosure, jump up to the rock wall and climb up.

Above, dodge the falling rocks by shifting left or right as need be. Jump to
the left side of the screen and climb up to see why rocks were falling. Those
dirty buggers. Cross between falling rocks (you can tell where they'll fall
by where the shadows bang the ground) and climb up on the right side to shoot
the shadows. Climb up again on the left side. Above, you will be pursued by
shadow spiders. You can shoot them, but there's an awful lot of them and I
don't think you can get them all. You can, however, outrace them, so just
keep going up to reach the tip of the mountain.

~ 6. IN THE DARKLANDS ~

How to live:

Press any button to get off the cushy flower you landed on. Walk right a bit
and three crawling shadows will come from the left. Shoot them by firing
along the ground and go right. There, there are I believe 4 crawling shadows
and 2 flying ones. Shoot the ground ones by firing along the ground, jumping
to avoid the fireballs, then take out the flying shadows by firing up and
diagonally. There's a grey pressure plate on the ground here. Leave it for
now. Go right and shoot the single shadow, then return and step on that
plate. Run right again and either jump over the second pressure plat here, or
just wait for the small stone to lower again and run to the end of the screen
before the large black stone comes out again.

Ahead, you find some delightful liquid hot magma. Jump to the first pedestal,
and then quickly jump to the next before the first one sinks. From the second
pedestal, jump up and grab the rocks. Between bursts of lava, move left and
up, then right across the top. Ahead, a spider drops green goo into the
handholds in the rocks. This goo drips down, and if you touch it you'll lose
your grip and fall into the lava. Cross the screen, dodging the goo, and you
might be able to shoot the spider if you get right underneath it (he likes to
dodge your shots).

Over to the right, there are 3 shadows. The top one likes to bang the ground,
shaking you off the wall. Climb straight up the left side, holding the jump
button for if you get knocked off (so you'll grab another hold below). Try to
climb up just enough to shoot the top shadow from the side (it's when Andy is
just reaching for the top right handhold). Once he's gone, climb down and
shoot the left shadow from straight across, then hop to his ledge. Shoot the
last shadow from there, then climb up and to the right. Fire right to kill
the flying shadow before he kills you, then climb over into his ledge. Walk
to the right and start shooting everything in sight, always to the right.
There are 2 flying shadows who will toss fireballs, one high, one low. Duck
under the former, and jump over the latter (do a somersault for safety), and
just keep firing until you kill everything. Now, go back, climb the wall, and
pass under the ledge, past the lava spouts, then up the wall.

Above, there are a pair of spiders for you to take out. Avoid the green goo
and keep firing, hopefully getting lucky. You'll probably only be able to hit
a spider when it comes right up to you to try and eat you. Above, more
spiders, more goo, and three grubs as well. Remember, if you slip off the
wall, hold the jump button to grab on below, then dodge the goo that will
still be coming down to you. Climb to the top for a little FMV.

Go right up top, and shoot the grub between lava burst. To jump across, get
close to the lave bursts, then jump over after they both shoot together. You
have to jump from the very top of the wall to make it. To the right, there
are a couple spiders, so check for goo coming your way right away. Climb up a
bit to make it easier to shoot them. Ahead, there's one more spider, then a
flying shadow up top. Get onto the ledges at the top. Another flying shadow
or two come over when you cross the middle ledge. Shoot and dodge. Go right
to finish them off, then go back left and climb the wall past the lava spouts
along the bottom. Cross each during the pause after the 2 small bursts, but
before the large burst. Once across, push the seed along the ground to the
right side, then shoot it under the stalactite to grow it, then climb the wall
back left, up, and around to the top again. Climb the plant to reach the
handholds. Once you approach the exit, 2 more flying shadows come down, so
drop to the ground and prepare to duck and fire. Climb up again once it's
clear.

~ 7. RAISE THE MAGIC ROCK! ~

How to live:

Once you enter the area, immediately walk to the right and fall to the ground,
then into the hole just ahead, before you get squashed by the horizontal
columns that will shoot out. When you land, rather than trying to get past
the three vertical columns, step right again to go down another screen.
There, immediately power an energy shot and shoot the seed to make it sprout,
blocking the large column that comes from the left side. Walk right to the
next screen and walk into the wall panel at the end of the tunnel to push it.
Return to the previous screen and drop down in the new hole. Go right, walk
closer to the shadow and shoot it from the ground. Kick the seed all the way
to the right and sprout it, then climb up and jump right. Shoot all of the
shadows on the next screen, alternating high and low shots. Shake off any
that grab onto you. Fall through the hole on the right and defeat more
shadows below in the same manner. Crawl through the space to the right.
Crawl across the room, always staying along the ground to avoid the mantraps
in the ceiling. Crawl under the crusher after it makes a move. Crawl to the
end, then turn around, and with the seed ahead of you, crawl back out the way
you came. Place the seed under the column sticking down from the ceiling, and
sprout it to push this column up, which, if you recall the screen above, will
push up the glowing meteor.

Above ground, you have two screens within which to take out the flying shadows
without getting fried. Make a stand at either end of this area. It can be
confusing with all of the Amigos flying around, but just keep firing around,
and especially watch for shots directed towards you. Duck or jump as
appropriate.

~ 8. THE HUNT FOR WHISKEY ~

How to live:

Walk forward a bit and a flying shadow will appear. Kill it, then the shadow
on the top shelf will float over. Don't let it drop on you, and kill it with
an energy blast. On the next screen, there are more ground shadows and a
couple flying ones. Take the latter out first if you can, but fire straight
to keep the ground shadows back while you're trying. Climb the wall and back
to the top shelf on the first screen when they're all dead. You have to jump
across a small gap in the wall, then use a powered energy blast to break the
rocks blocking the tunnel.

WARNING!: This next part can be very frustrating, because you will, in all
likelihood, die often, and have to restart at the very beginning. You have to
get past the first two paragraphs described below to reach the first continue
point.

Inside, you face an armored warrior. You can kill him with 2 regular shots or
one powered shot, but either way he splits into 2 grey blobs that must be
destroyed with powered shots along the ground. If you don't blow them up in
time, each blob regenerates into a new armored warrior. Deal with him and
advance. Cross the chain by walking, not running (if you fall, skip down two
paragraphs to see how to get back up). When you reach the middle, the flying
shadows will come out at you. Shoot one straight ahead, then turn around
quickly and shoot the other. Continue across to the other side. On the next
screen, your first task is to shoot at least most of the shadows crawling on
the ceiling, using diagonal shots. Stay at the left edge of the screen to do
this, while ducking or somersaulting over the armored warriors' air and ground
shots. When you've cleared most of the shadows, then take on the warriors,
making a strong effort to destroy the grey globs before they can reform.
Continue to the right along the top.
Shoot the shadow past the stomping goo feet. He'll dodge a lot, but just keep
firing and you'll hit him soon enough. Now to get past the goo feet. I'll
number them 1, 2, and 3 from left to right. #1 only stomps when you step on
the pink pressure plate, so don't. To get across safely, wait until foot 3 is
going to come down just after foot 2. Jump over the pressure plate as foot 2
has just come down, then run the rest of the way across. Finally, this
section is complete once you cross to the next screen.

Climb onto the wall and get ready to shoot some grubs. You should know how to
handle these by now. There are 4 to take out. Climb down when done, and
shoot the shadow on the ground while still hanging on the wall. On the
ground, press the pink pod on the right wall to reveal more handholds, then
climb back up and to the left. Immediately shoot the shadow on your left when
you enter the next screen, and push the pink pod there. Return to the
previous screen, and shoot the crawling shadows diagonally from the upper
ledge. Once you jump down four more come out of the tunnel, so be ready to
shoot along the ground at them. The fourth one takes a moment longer to
emerge. Press the pink pod and climb back up to the screen above, where you
now face some spiders instead of grubs (though any grubs you didn't kill
earlier will be there too). Kill them then dismount at the top and go back
left.

Get past the stomping goo feet again by running across and jumping over the
pressure plate. Go back to the chain that you walked across, and run while
standing at the left edge to fall down below. Use normal shots to take out
the shadows while dodging fireballs, then start to kill the armored warriors
when you've cleared some space. When everyone's dead, walk right and kill the
pair of shadows there. Jump across the gap (if you fall down now, you'll be
overrun instantly). Trigger the pressure plate on the other side. {If you
want to get back to the top, continue to the right. Kill another shadow and
sprout the seed, then climb up. At the top, go left, step on the plate, and
kill the shadow, who seems to be invulnerable to normal shots [i.e. use a
powered shot]. You can now climb up the ladder and follow the instructions
from two paragraphs above}. Jump to the handholds, climb down and to the
right, then drop down on to the right pressure plate. Turn and kill the
multitude of shadows that come from the left side. Once they're dead, you can
step on the center pressure plate and face the armored warriors from the right
side. Once everyone's dead, go left and climb down the ladder at the end to
push a pink pod, then go back up and to the right end, then down the ladder
there.

This next part is a bit of a lark. The grubs are especially nasty, and you
won't be able to kill them, since they hide as soon as you start to generate a
shot. As soon as you climb onto the wall, too, they suck you in. Now, as for
the armored warrior below, you can't reach him, because there's only a small
break in the wall, and it ain't at ground level. The only way to get through
here is to first do a powered shot while hanging near the bottom of the
ladder, fired diagonally down through the gap in the wall beside you. It'll
run along the ground and melt the warrior into 2 blobs. Now leave those blobs
alone! When both warriors regenerate, the grubs will go for them, giving you
a moment to get across the top while they are distracted. Now you have to
climb past a lave pit. New blocks will appear as you reach the end of each
new section. After climbing to the upper left, you have to jump to the
handholds at the bottom right, and jump from there to the bottom left, all
between bursts of lava. In the next screen, shoot the shadow above you when
you enter, then cross to the next screen.

~ 9. THE GREAT ESCAPE ~

How to live:

Getting out of the cell is fairly easy. Shoot a powered shot directly upward
underneath the seed, then sprout the seed through the same hole. Walk right
to push the boulder in the hole. Press the pink pod and walk off to the left.
From the stone handholds, shoot the armored warrior below. When he turns into
two, the grubs will go after him. At this point, jump left, press the grey
button on the wall, and climb straight up beside it to the top before the
grubs finish their snack and come after you.

Walk left and take out all of the shadows, including the ones on the ceiling.
Head left again and do the same for the armored warrior and the shadows there.
Step on both pressure plates and climb up to go left. After the FMV, drop
into the gap. Wait for an armored warrior to throw a ground fireball. Jump
in place over it. It'll burn the wooden bridge in the middle. Fall through
the hole this creates. Immediately run to the right upon landing below. Jump
over the crawling shadow on the right side of the next screen, and then walk
as you enter the next screen, since you need to cross a chain without falling.
On the other side, once you drop to the ground, crawl to the left underneath
the previous screen. On the other side, press the silver pressure plate in
the wall, jump over the crawling shadow who's been chasing you once he lunges
at you, and crawl back through the tunnel. At the other end again, run to the
rock handholds you made by pressing the plate, and climb up them.

Back up top, run left along the ground, past the pressure plates, and jump
over the hole you previously fell into. Instead, fall into the hole at the
very left end of the path. But is this the end?

Of course not! Andy finds his old plasma rifle inside the monster, who just
happens to be the guy who ate it back above ground at the start of your
adventure. Fire a few times inside his belly to break free, then zap the
shadows with impunity. The next screen will test your rifle skills, with
ceiling shadows that will try to drop down on you, and occasionally shadows
that come from behind. Once you've cleared the room, keep heading to the
right.

Zap the armored warriors. When there are grey globs to destroy, keep firing
along the ground, standing only to jump over fireballs. Continue to the right
along the bottom. Shoot the flying shadows diagonally first, then take out
the armored warriors. Step on the pressure plate at the end, retrace your
steps to the ladder, and climb up. The pressure plate up here will open the
nearest door. Go through, then jump across the top platforms. Ahead, stay
low to take out the flying shadows, but don't let the crawling ones get
directly over top of you. Drop to the ground and eliminate the warrior when
the rest are gone. Next, take out the ceiling crawlies, but watch for
fireballs from the warrior at the same time. Don't miss the crawling shadow
behind the ladder when you're done. Go up and walk right to finish this area.

~ 10. PIECES OF THE MAGIC ROCK ~

How to live:

Go into the right tunnel to find the first piece of the magic rock. Kick it
to the wall, then walk past it, turn around, and kick it back to the central
room. Go back and climb the ladder. Note the hole to its right, where you
can drop future rock pieces. As soon as you start to crawl into the tunnel on
the left, a shadow crawls out to you, so shoot it. Then shoot the one on the
next screen, then stand outside the tunnel and shoot the one just above
diagonally. Go up the ladder and finish the rest off. Crawl along the middle
level to the right to the next screen, then go up the ladder there, then again
to the next screen above. Touch the pressure plate, then jump over the gap
and go to the left to find the next piece. Push it right and down the hole,
then go down after it. While standing on the pressure plate that lifts the
gate below, shoot the rock with the plasma cannon to roll it along. Once it's
off the screen, climb down and follow it. Push it back and forth to the
central room, then head into the fray once more.

Climb up past the area you've already explored. Along the ground, you'll find
a crawling shadow following you and triggering pressure plates. When it's in
the middle, run to the ladder, climb up, and quickly jump across the gap
before he closes the gate. Walk past the ladder and wipe out the armored
warriors on the next screen, then return and climb the ladder. Kill the
armored warriors on both levels, then trigger the top pressure plate on the
left side. On the top platform, go right and shoot the magic rock piece. Go
back, go down, trigger the lower pressure plate, go right and shoot the piece
further over. Go back and back up, trigger the plate again, go right and
shoot the magic rock piece to the right for the last time, then go down a
level and get it. Push it back and forth down to the central room the same
way you did the last one.

It seems that there's still one shard missing. From the central room, go left
again. Kill the armored warriors and approach the barrier gate for a brief
FMV, after which it will open. Drop down, shoot the shadows, drop down on the
far end and shoot some more from the middle ledge. Get the ground shadows on
this side by shooting diagonally down. Don't step off the ledge, but jump
off, because the crawling shadow underneath it will grab you otherwise. Shoot
him, then the last shadow across the way, and finally fall into the hole in
the ground.

In the lowest cavern, you first have to take out a pair of armored warriors,
which is no big trouble at this point I hope. On the next screen, there are
lots of shadows to take out. Watch for the flapping ones that land behind
you. When they're clear, the real fun starts. Head to the next screen for
more shadows. While you're fighting them, however, the Master of Darkness
himself comes out and occasionally shoots double fireballs along the ground.
You must use Salto (the double jump) to get over them, and you want to jump a
tad early. It's okay to land on the fire tail, it's the ball itself that'll
kill you. Jump these when he throws them, and continue to fire on the
shadows. Once they're all gone, run to the next screen. The boss will follow
you, and you will face yet more shadows, with a couple armored warriors thrown
in for good measure. Only either the master or the warriors will shoot
fireballs at one time, so you won't be totally screwed by an undodgeable
barrage. Finally, walk up to the final piece of the magic rock on the next
screen.

~ 11. HEART OF DARKNESS ~

Ways to die: -devoured by darkness

How to live:

You can only swing your plasma rifle like a club, and move back and forth.
There will be many swirling shapes, but the only two to watch for are the
shadow mouths with eyes, and the blobs with two tentacles on top. These, you
must hit with your rifle to dissipate them. The mouths, though, when hit,
turn into a hand that will come down on the spot you were just standing in, so
move as soon as you hit them. After a couple minutes of this, the game end
cinema will kick in.

After the credits, you will be prompted to put on the 3-D glasses that came
with the game and press X. You now get to watch the FMV that took place after
Andy picked up the last piece of the magic rock again, but in glorious three
dimensions. Enjoy!

HEART OF DARKNESS

Hey. This is very probably the very first Heart of Darkness walkthrough.
We played this on medium difficulty so there may be slight differences from
other difficulty levels.

START: Your standing in Your Teleport Machine

Jump off and your teleport machine will explode and walk to the right Walk
right and jump over hole in pathway and keep walking to the right Shoot the
Black Critter on the ground and destroy the skeleton and move on to ya right
Shoot the skeleton and move on to the next screen to the right When you enter a
Black Critter will be waiting destroy him and shoot the cliff face in front of
you Attack Black Critters and move on.

Kill black critters and cross the Bridge and go onto the next screen Ok Black
critters can pull you off the cliff so try shoot the crawling critters and jump
over the running ones cross onto next screen You now shoot the critters and
make sure you clear all of them cause one hides at the top of the bones Once all
clear climb the bones and travel right to the next screen

Move along and shoot the cliff 2 big Critters appear run fast past them

Ok you are being followed by a critter walk slow over the bridge and then run
fast Run past the light and the critter will DIE and move onto the next screen

THE BIG CLIMB

Jump onto the right side of the wall and make your way up then cross left and go
into the next screen Move up and get near the cave hole you will have to jump
across by doing a Double jump then move up a little and let your self Drop onto
the ledge and move a long to the next screen

Move up the cliff and jump over to the right this is hard and needs timing now
move up and go to the next screen
Jump up and down and the cliff will drop and u catch the dinosaur skeletons tail
now move onto next screen. move into the area of the skeleton bones and move up
and go onto the next screen.

Ok gotta move quick and jump onto the wall to the right of the jaws of the
skeleton or you get chomped Move up the cliff and make your way to the next
screen. Jump on the right side of the cliff then make the bone drop then it
creates a bridge climb back down and Cross over it then climb up and enter the
next screen

FMV

THE SWAMP

Move to the right and goto the next screen there is a rope pull it and
something comes down stepping stones do a single jump to each stone then cross
into the next screen. The rope is in your face jump onto it and then land on
the stepping stone and wait for the bug to be eaten by plant then Double jump
across when plant is eating the Bug and go up the cliff and turn right and goto
the next screen. Jump onto the rope and then onto the next beware of the rope
on the next screen now goto the next screen.

Jump onto the grey looking rock before you know it a swamp serpent bucks you off
now move right and got the next screen. Now your going into the swamps the
trick is to duck when the Flying critters are there this will go on within
3 or so screens. ok after that duck and becarefull. then next goto the next
screen Duck and becarefull and make it to the ledge where the light kills the
flying critters and now move onto the next screen

Cross over the bridge and go up on the stone cliff and then go right and jump
onto the funny looking vine that you found to be a killer plant and move on to
the right and active the BUGS to fly above but first let the plant eat a bug
then after u have made 20 or so bugs come out go back to the stone cliffs and
climb up to the top and move onto the right there are 2 screens of no action :)

now your in the room with the bugs and 2 plants it's kinda Dark left plant 1
eat one and run fast into next
screen. Don't run in the next room cause there are 3 plants waiting for you :)
and there is a rope jump
onto it and then wait for plant 2 to eat a bug then run and jump outta there.

Now your in a room with rocks climb on them and push the middle one

Now your hanging on a rope with some black hole below you it's a trap. swamp
Monster is there swing the rope the
monster will break ya rope then swim like mad and don't stop this will go on for
2 - 3 screens then you come to some land with 2 trees and grass ok climb the
second tree with he vines and goto the top then go into next screen

Now you see a pink dude and a flying Critter jump onto the rope and help
MrPinkie

FMV

THE ABYSS WATER LEVEL

Swim right and don't go near the surface exit to the bottom goto the GLOWING
GREEN thing and get fire power now head to the right and in the next area exit
to the bottom right after blowing up the rocks to the tunnel now follow the
tunnel around and you will find land once you leave the water some rocks will
block your way destroy the rocks that are blocking you way to the right now goto
the next screen.

Kick the Brown egg to the cliff face and now do a strong shot and shoot it it
will create a vine go up the vine and then jump onto ledge and head right. Now
on the next screen drop off the ledge to the platform below but DO NOT GO INTO
THE WATER ok climb up the area with the pinky look and you will see another
brown seed float across to the other side get across and make the vine grow
climb up and jump onto right platform and goto next screen

Ok Jump into the water below now watch out there are killer weeds in this area
and suck plants just time you way round until you get the the space to get air
with the white teeth looking things coming from the roof next move is hard so
timeing is all on you. Ok keep to the bottem left all the way and exit to the
bottom left so the next few screens after that are easy but then the room with
the 3 sucking plants is not easy swim away from he current and then make your
way to the next screen then swim down and follow the passage this will let you
get some air along there now swim back and go up this is more timing with the
plants not to hard

Now your in a room with a killer plant at the top of the roof and also the
sucking plant DON'T GOTO SURFACE
just becareful and move along the next ones are real easy just wait for the
first plant to move then go and don't stop cause they move after each other.
Now you can make it to land go into the room with 6 plants

In this room you'll exercise your strong life magic (triangle button). Fire your
strong life magic at the plant directly to your right - it will be stunned and
then you can quickly jump and hold, and then shimmy your way across to the plant
at the bottom right of the screen. The best position is directly to the left of
it. Then shoot it as you did the plant before and clamber your way down to the
exit below it.

This room seems more difficult than it is. The best method to exit the room and
avoid the worms is to drop from the wall (down and X) and immediately run across
to the left of the screen where you'll drop down into...

DEADLY WATERS

When you start off drop left and walk onto the next screen.
On the ceiling above you will be some more shadow creatures that will drop down
and savage you if you let them. Dispose of them with your quick green magic (O
button) and then use your strong life magic to collapse vine into it's pod. Then
use your magic again to stun the snapper plant and once more to regrow the vine.
Climb up it.

In next screen walk left and push the boulder. Duck to avoid the plant above you
as you crawl left.

You'll encounter more of those worms here - and this time you'll have to fight.
Shoot towards them and walk slowly across. The worms will have ducked back to
avoid your shots but now will stick their heads out to grab you. When they do
this you'll have to shoot them and be quick about it. One shot will stun then
and another will cause them to fly off the screen. After they are defeated you
can climb down at the left hand side.

Climb down to the thin platform above the water. Right right to fall into the
water then swim down the small tunnel to the right. Swim all the way down the
tunnel until you reach a small rock blocking your way - push it and then swim
back left as quickly as you can - you have company. Climb out onto the platform
again and climb up.
Return the way you had originally come. Don't forget to duck under the snapping
plant and then drop down the vine and run right to avoid the plant at the
bottom. Collapse the vine and stun the plant - then go right pushing the vine
pod in front of you.

Push it off into the water - but don't fall in yourself. Stand near the edge of
the platform and extend the vine on the island by firing on the diagonal at it
with your strong life magic. Jump onto the vine (Jump and hold) and then across
to the other vine. Collapse it and push the pod into the water. Walk right onto
a screen much like the one before.
Walk to the edge and extend the the vine on the first island and wait for the
pod to come to a stop on the other island. Leap across to the vine and extend
the second vine by shooting the pod on the diagonal. Don't get to close to the
water the shadow fish will leap out and kill you.
Now leap across to the second vine. Climb up it into the next area.

LAIR OF THE SNAPPING PLANTS

This part is easy - simpy stun the plant and walk across to the left then the
wall up to the next level. Stun the plant on the right that is hidden in the
cave and climb up .

You will need to be quick in this room. Start by climbing up and stunning the
plant on your right with a diagonal attack - do the same with the one on the
left. Climb a bit more and stun the third plant on your right. Then leap off
onto the platform. Quickly kill the shadow creatures on the ceiling or run left
into the next room.

Climb up.

SHADOW'S LAIR

When you reach the top of the climb immediately run left as you will be chased
by a mob of shadow creatures.
In the next room jump over the pod to avoid kicking it and then extend it. Fend
off the enemies and climb up the vine to the next level and walk left.

Kill the creatures on the ceiling and then walk across to the edge. Shoot on the
diagonal to safely destroy all the lurking monsters. When you are sure they have
gone run left.

Continue running left and quickly climb up the rocks at the left hand side to
avoid all the creatures and then go left off the screen.

Walk left across the precarious looking bridge. There is a good reason that it
looks this way.

CD 2

Now onto CD 2.

AMIGO VILLAGE BATTLE

Defeat the flying creatures and run onto the next screen where there'll be more.
Destroy the land creatures, jumping to avoid diagonal fireballs. And when you
have a gap run right. Don't try to kill everything - they'll only replenish.

Continuing running right onto the bridge you'll be stopped by running into one
of the creatures and then the bridge will collapse.

CLIMBING CAPERS

You'll start off hanging on the swaying bridge. Shoot the flying creature and
climb down.
Climb down and jump (and hold) across to the vine covered frame - climb up and
across.

Speed is of the essence here. Quickly clamber across and jump (and hold) across
the gap in the rock face to the vines on the other side. Climb across to the
right.

Climb slowly across until the shadow monster appears. Use your strong life
magic to destroy the bone and the shadow will be destroyed. Climb right until
you are standing on the bone. Jump onto the rope.

When you drop from the rope turn left and shoot the shadow creature then turn
right and kill the other one. Climb up the ladder and collapse the vine. Push
the pod to the right.

Continue pushing the pod until it won't go any further then extend it and climb
up.

MORE CLIMBING

Climb across the vines until the shadow monster emerges from the branch. Use
your strong life magic to stun it by shooting the branch. Climb across then up.

Stun the shadow monsters by shooting the branches like you did before and climb
up to the centre of the screen. Exit here.

Once again you stun the shadow monster like before and climb across to the
bottom left. Patience is a virtue here. Slowly make your way up - and shoot the
worms when the opportunity arises. I find that it is best to kill all the worms
before continuing your climb upwards.

WINCH AREA

Here you'll see a group of flying creatures trapped behind a wooden scaffold.
There is also a winch and a stone platform attached to it. . It that you might
encounter some worms in this area as well. If you do kill them like you did
before. Climb left and up and exit the screen to the left.

Similar stuff here - kill the worms and stun the shadow monsters. Exit the
screen on the bottom left.

Push the boulder and wait for the flying creatures. Kill them and climb up.

Quickly climb across to the right. You will most likely be hit by the shadow
monster. Hold down the X button until you grab onto the cliff-face down below.

Climb across to the right, stunning the shadow monster on the way, and then make
your way up to the winch room. The stone platform will have moved so climb up
and continue off the screen.

FALLING ROCKS

This part is quite dangerous. Climb up and when some small stones fall from
above hold left until the large rock falls and misses you. Continue climbing and
wait for the other rock to fall (if it hasn't already) and then leap across the
gap to the other rock face and climb up.

Above you here will be some shadow creatures. When they hit the ground rocks
will fall from above. Timing is essential here. Wait for the first rock to fall
and then climb across and stop just before the second rock. When this has fallen
climb right quickly and when the third rock falls jump across and grab the rock-
face. Climb up and kill the shadow creature. Walk left and then exit by climbing
up.

A CLIMB TO NOWHERE

All you have to do is climb upwards as quickly as possible. A horde of shadow


spiders will be hot on your tail. Continue until you reach the top of the
mountain.

THE OBELISKS

Drop off the plant and shoot the shadow creatures that emerge from the left hand
side. Exit to the right.

On this next screen kill the flying creatures and the land-based ones then walk
right onto the next screen to kill one more.

Here you will see a large stone obelisk jutting out of the ground. You will need
to walk back the way you have come and activate the metal pressure pad on the
ground which will cause the large obelisk to go down. Then quickly run right and
do a running jump from the edge of the screen you are on. If you pull this off
properly you will miss the pressure pad at the start of the room and won't
reactivate the obelisk. Continue running and exit at the right hand side.

LAVA CAVES

You will be in a cave with two lava geysers and two platforms. Timing is
important here as the platforms will sink into the lava if you stand on them for
too long. Wait for the first geyser to erupt then jump to the first platform.
Jump to the second platform as soon as you can - but don't get fried. Then
quickly leap and hold onto the rocky wall. Climb across to the left, avoiding
the lava geyser and climb off the screen at the top right.

There will be another one of those shadow spiders on this screen. It squirts
slime on the rock face that will make you lose your grip. Climb over to the
glowing lava outcrop and make your way across to the right avoiding the slime
drops as you go. It is best to kill the shadow spider before continuing - so
wait until it goes for you and shoot it. You'll have to be carefull as it moves
fast. Climb across to the right.

LAVA CAVES 2

Shoot the creature on your right and then quickly climb up. When you get level
with it the shadow creature at the top right will stand up and slam the ground
with his fists to try and dislodge you. If this happens hold X to grab hold
again. Kill him as quickly as you can then climb down and jump across to kill
the other creature. Climb up and jump across to the right and continue climbing
right to exit the screen.

Immediately shoot the flying creature on the right hand side then climb across
jump off to exit on the right hand side.

Here you will need to kill all the creatures on the right hand side of the
screen. Jump and duck to avoid the fireballs thrown by the flying creatures. Go
back onto the previous screen.
Take the lower path by climbing along past the lava geysers to the screen that
you just killed all the creatures in. Be careful and take your time to avoid the
lava spurts.

LAVA CAVE CLIMB

Climb up the rock face onto the next screen where the shadow spiders are. Dodge
the slime they squirt and kill them before climbing up. Shoot them when they
head directly towards you and are extremely close, otherwise they will dodge.

Use the same tactics as above to kill the creatures here and continuing climbing
upwards.

SURFACE

Walk right until you come to a screen with two lava geysers and a worm across to
the right. Watching the lava geysers closely to determine the pattern and kill
the worm. Then you have to climb up and jump across to the other rocks when both
geysers go down. Climb off to the right.

Here you will need to kill some more shadow spiders before you can continue.
Don't forget to avoid the slime that they squirt otherwise you will fall into
the lava below. Climb above the large lava spouts on the right to avoid them and
then watch the smaller one for the timing you will need. Climb down next to it
and when it falls back quickly climb down and exit on the right.

MORE LAVA CAVES

Kill the shadow spider across to your right then clamber up and shoot right to
kill a flying creature that can be very annoying. Climb back down and make your
way across to the first lava spout and then watch it for the timing that you
will need. You will notice that the lava spouts spurt three times then go down
giving you enough time to make your way past them. Climb across and exit on the
right.

Make your way past the lava spout and drop down onto solid ground. You'll notice
the flying creatures at the top head off the screen at the top - don't worry.
They're only coming to get you. Shoot the pod with your quick life magic so that
it slides under the rocky outcrop to the right. Shooting it with your strong
life magic to expand the vine. Kill the flying creatures when the enter from the
left hand side before continuing back the way you have come.

This time climb up to the top and drop onto the rocky outcrop. Jump your way
across the other platforms, making sure that you avoid the lava spouts and
continue right.

You'll be back in the room with the vine that you extended. Climb it and clamber
across to your left stopping just before the gap in the ceiling. Some fireballs
will drop down and then flying creatures will attack you. Drop down to dispose
of them and climb up to exit. Then when you reach the next screen go right.

THE LIFESTONE

When you start off drop right to avoid being crushed by a massive girder. Run
right and quickly drop down the hole.
Walk over and stand on the girder to the right hand side. It will descend taking
you along for the ride.

Using your strong life magic expand the pod to save yourself from being crushed
into paste. Walk right and push the button on the far wall then return the way
you came.

You can now drop down a hole that has appeared and exit across to the right.

Kick the pod across as far as it will go and then kill the gibbering shadow
creature on the girder above you. Expand the pod, climb the vine and jump off to
your right.

At last the Lifestone is revealed in all it's green glowing glory. But you can't
gain access to it just yet. Kill the shadow creatures and then run across and
drop down to your right.

After you land immediately turn left and destroy some more shadow creatures.
Crawl off the screen to the right.

Continue ducking and crawl across the room to the pod on the far side. You'll
have to time your crawl under the stomping girder to get there. Remain ducking
and push the pod back the way you came - once again waiting to avoid being
pulped. If you stand up in this room you will die.

Push the pod under the girder jutting down in the centre of the room and then
expand it. The girder will be pushed up raising the Lifestone from the briny
depths.

MORTAL COMBAT

This section is a piece of cake. Help the Amigos defeat the flying creatures
then move on to the next screen.

FMV

OUTSIDE THE FORTRESS

Walk right until the shadow creatures flap above you then kill it before it has
a chance to drop down. If it drops you are dead. Defeat the flying creature that
comes to it's aid. Exit to the right.

Employ all your skills to defeat the shadow creatures and climb your way up the
steps and off the screen to the left.

Leap across to the other steps and use your strong life magic to destroy the
rocks thereby opening access to...

FORTRESS CAVERNS

Kill the strange creature then use your strong life magic to destroy the
bubbling remains. If you don't destroy the remains each part will regenerate
into a healthy creature, creating double trouble. Follow the tunnel to the right
to exit.

Stop moving as soon as you enter this new chamber to prevent yourself from
falling off the chain bridge. Carefully step your way across to the centre of
the chain and kill the creatures that fly up to attack you. Continute stepping
across to the exit on the right.

Upon entering this room climb down the ladder to about half-way and kill the
shadow creature lurking there. Next shoot on the diagonal to try to hit the
shadow creatures crawling across the roof. Once they have been disposed of kill
the regenerating beast and destroy their remains. Sometimes you will have to
kill the regenerating beasts first. Guerilla tactics (attack and retreat down
the ladder) seems to work well in this area. After they are all dead exit to the
right.

This next room is all about timing your jumps. The first stomper is activated by
the pressure pad beneath it so you really don't want to touch the pad. You'll
have to watch the timing of the other two stompers. After a while you'll notice
that at some times they are almost syncronized in their movement. It is at this
time that you must act. When two stompers hit the ground you must run right -
jumping the pressure pad and continue running under the raised stompers. If you
have timed it well you should make it - if not well, there's always next time.
Go right to exit.

WORM COLONY

Climb out onto the steps and wait for the worms to come to you. Make sure they
are all dead before continuing the climb downwards.

At the bottom right of this room you will notice a pink fleshy blob - this is a
switch that you must activate before continuing. A shadow creature is patrolling
the area below so drop from the wall, turn, and quickly defeat him.
Push the switch and climb up the newly formed stone steps then jump across to
exit through the cave mouth to the
left.

Press the switch and go back out to the right.

You will notice that all the stone steps have disappeared and there are now a
group of shadow creatures patrolling the area. Kill them by shooting at them on
the diagonal from your vantage point, your strong life magic seems to work well,
then drop down and activate the pink switch again. Climb up before you are
killed, into the room that had the worms in it.

Instead you must now face a group of shadow spiders. Avoid their slime and
destroy them when they move in for the kill. Climb your way over to the exit on
the top left.

You'll have to get past the stompers again so just do the reverse of the first
time. Time your run and then jump the pressure pad.
Return to the room with the chain bridge and walk to the left hand side then
jump, you'll fall off into a new area.

SHADOW BATTLE

Kill all the creatures using any methods you prefer and go to the room to the
right.

In the next room kill any shadow creatures and make your way across to the
pressure pad on leap across the gap and activate the pressure pad on the
ground. This will cause more stone steps to appear which you should then climb
down. But, instead of dropping off onto the pressure pad directly beneath you,
climb right and drop down onto the one there instead. This pressure pad will
cause the wall on the left hand side to rise and unleash another mob of shadow
creatures. Dispose of these before jumping over the middle pressure pad to exit
on the left.

Climb down the ladder and push the pink button on the wall. Return to the room
with the two pressure pads and stand on the middle pad to unleash some
regenerating beasts. Kill them before continuing your journey by walking across
to the right.

Exit this room using the ladder in the bottom right.

WORM FEEDING TIME

This next room is much easier than it looks. Climb down to the bottom and kill
the regenerating creature by shooting through the gap. As soon as you have done
this quickly climb back up and wait just out of the worms range. When the
creature regenerates into multiple clones the worms will go for them. Climb left
and exit the screen. Don't stop moving or the worms will get you.

Climb across and jump to the newly formed rock handholds that appear. Now jump
left to the next set of handholds. Then you will notice some more handholds
appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. You will need to jump to these
avoiding the lava spout as you jump. Climb up and leap across to the handholds
that form in the bottom left corner. You can then exit to the left.

Run left and encounter some more shadow creatures and the pink minion of the
Master of Darkness.

FMV

PRISON

Here you are reunited with your dog Whisky - unfortunately you are both
imprisoned in the same cell. Escape is easy. Simply stand beneath the pod above
you and shoot the roof with your strong life magic. The roof will collapse and
the pod will fall. So all you need to do now is extend the vine with your magic
and climb up to escape. Push the boulder.

FMV

Walk over and push the button on the right hand side. Then exit to the left.

You have to push the button on the bottom left here. Start off by climbing out
onto the stone outcrops and kill the regenerating creature below you. Wait until
he regenerates and the worms go for him and his new friend, then quickly run
across and push the left hand button. Climb up as quickly as you can and exit at
the top left. If you do this fast enough the worms will not kill you.

ESCAPE

Do a running jump and land on the platform at the far left - it will make the
next room easier. Walk left to exit and prepare for battle.

Kill all of the creatures before continuing your journey to the left.

You'll have to kill some more regenerating beasts and shadow creatures here.
Then push the pressure pad on the left hand side before climbing up and exiting
to the top left.
Walk left

FMV

You have now lost your life magic so running is the best option now. Drop down
and stand on the wooden platform in the centre of the room. Wait until one of
the regenerating beasts throws a fireball and jump it to fall down into
uncertainty.

RUN, RUN, RUN

As soon as you land run right - you will be chased by a horde of enemies.

Keep running and jump the crawling shadow creature. Stop running just before you
enter the next room and walk across the chain bridge. If you are running you
will fall. As soon as you are off the bridge start to run right again.

Drop off the ledge and quickly crawl down the passage to the right. You are
being followed.
Continue crawling left until you reach a room with a button on the left wall.
Push the button and run and jump over the crawling shadow creature. Crawl back
all the way to the right and climb up the newly formed stone steps.

Run left and don't stop.

Jump the hole in the floor and continue running until you come to a dark circle
on the floor to your left. Run into the hole.

FMV

INDIGESTION

You have been swallowed up by the huge creature - and are now trapped inside
it's stomach. Press O to activate your lightning gun that you have now regained.
Keep blasting until you are freed from the creatures stomach.
Destroy the shadow creatures and exit to the right.

Kill the shadow creatures until you can safely exit on the right hand side.
Don't try to kill them all as more will just come to take their place.

PRESSURE PAD MADNESS

Kill all of the regenerating creatures and exit to the right.

Here you will face more flying creatures and another group of regenerating
creatures. Once again you must kill them all. Push the button on the right hand
side before returning the way you came.

Climb up and push the pressure pad to open the door on the right.

Jump your way to the exit on the top right hand side of this room. Running jumps
seem to work well to achieve this.

SHADOW MAYHEM

Kill all of the shadow creatures before continuing. You'll have to jump to avoid
the fireballs that the flying creatures throw. Continue your journey to the
right.
Once again you'll have to kill everything before climbing up the ladder and
exiting on the right hand side.

LIFESTONE REMAINS

Walk towards the pink minon.

FMV

You'll now have to find all the pieces of the broken Lifestone. Start out by
going right.

Here you'll find the first piece of the Lifestone. Simply push it back to the
room with the pink creature, then go back to the right and climb up the ladder.

Crawl down the small tunnel to the right - killing all the shadow creatures as
you go.

Kill all of the creatures here and exit the screen at the top right.

Walk past the door, which will close and then make your way up the ladder to
exit.

Climb up and quickly kill the shadow creature waiting for you. Walk over and
activate the pressure pad on the right. Now exit the room.

Here you will find the second piece of the broken Lifestone push it back to the
right until it falls down a hole. You'll need to do down after it.

The door on the left will have closed preventing you from moving the Lifestone
piece any further. All you need to do is crouch on the pressure pad at the right
of the room and push the Lifestone piece under the raised door and off the
screen. Climb down the ladder and exit to the left.

Push the Lifestone piece across the platform and down the small tunnel to the
right until it falls down a gap on the next screen.

Go down after it and push it back to the pink creature on the next screen.

Now you'll have to look for another piece - climb back up the way you have just
come.

FMV

A few rooms on you'll notice a door that was closed is now open. At the bottom
of the screen you'll see a crawling shadow creature in a tunnel with three
pressure pads. The creature will follow you as you move across the screen. You
need to run left and climb up the ladder - then jump across the gap before the
door comes down to stomp you. Walk right onto the next screen and kill the
regenerating creatures - this will make it easier for you later on. Then return
to the previous screen and climb up the ladder.

Kill all of the regenerating creatures. And then exit the room to the right
hand side. Push the Lifestone piece under the rocky outcrop with your Lightning
gun. It will fall down on a platform. Return left.

Climb down and push the pressure pad in the bottom left corner of the room.
Then walk back to the right and push the Lifestone piece to the right with your
Lightning gun. Return left again.

Climb up and activate the pressure pad in the top left of the room. Go right and
push the Lifestone piece off to the right with your Lightning gun until it falls
down a hole. Go back down and right for a few rooms until you find it.

Push it off the screen to the left and then follow it onto the next screen.

Keep pushing it until it falls down a gap then drop after it and stand in the
bottom left corner. The crawling shadow creature will go over and activate the
pressure pad at the bottom left. This lifts the door to the right and allows you
to push the Lifestone piece off the screen to the right.

You can now use the same steps as above to get the piece of Lifestone to the
central chamber with the pink creature.

FMV

A piece is missing so you will have to find it. Exit to the left.

Continue left and kill the regenerating beasts.

FMV

IN SEARCH OF THE LAST LIFESTONE PIECE

Drop down the hole and kill all of the creatures in the next room except the one
beneath the platform and the one at the bottom left corner of the room. Do a
running jump off the platform and quickly run left and fall down the hole to
escape.

THE FINAL FIGHT

Kill the regenerating creatures and go right. Things are going to get really
nasty from now on.

You'll have to kill all of the shadow creatures before continuing right.

On the next few screens kill all the shadow creatures and when the Master of
Darkness appears dodge the fireballs he throws with a somersault jump (press
jump and then jump again). When the screens are clear make your way across to
the right as soon as you can.

Finally, after a string of difficult battles you will find the last part of the
Lifestone.

FMV

THE HEART OF DARKNESS

You have now plunged into the Heart of Darkness you will have to fight your way
out. Use your Lightning gun to hit the ghostly tentacles and spectral hands that
appear. Remember to dodge the hand as it plunges down into the ground and
eventually the glowing red eyes will start to go away. A shaft of light will
appear to pierce the darkness.

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the great end sequence.

If you were wondering about the why Heart of Darkness comes with 3D glasses -
you'll wonder no longer.

Heart of Darkness Strategy Guide

Level 1: Canyon of Death


Pressing X, jump to the right of the hovercar, and it explodes. Proceed right.
Jump across the gap and proceed right. See the dinosaur head hanging from the
top? Shoot it down by holding O and controlling the using the D-Pad. Kill the
shadow on the ground too. Proceed right. Shoot down the dinosaur torso and
proceed right. Kill the shadow. Then direct the beam to the top right rock.
Shoot it down and a wall breaks open. 15 to 20 shadow creatures will come out.
Kill them and proceed right. Keep killing and proceed right. The creatures
that are running towards you, you can not kill so jump over them. Kill the
rest and proceed right. Climb the bone ladder and proceed right. Two huge
creatures come out from the walls and steal your ray gun! Proceed right. Walk
across the cliff. Proceed right. The light kills the shadow that was stalking
you and continue to proceed right. See the lizard? Follow the lizard. Clumb up
the wall by pressing X and follow the lizard up. Keep going up. Jump across by
pressing X and using the D-Pad on where you are wanting to jump to. MAKE SURE
YOU HOLD X UNTIL YOU GET TO THE NEXT ROCK OR YOU WILL...FALL AND DIE. Climb
down on to the floor and proceed right. Move right, climb up, then jump across
and continue proceed up. Proceed up to the dinosaur foot. Jump up and down.
The tail picks you up and proceed up through the rib cage. Once in the
dinosaur mouth, jump to the right before it shuts on you. Proceed up. Move
right hit the leg and push it over. Cross the leg and proceed up.

Level 2: Swamplands
Move right. Jump onto the rope and it pulls open a door. Proceed through the
door. Jump across. On the second jump, tap X twice to perform a double jump.
Jump onto the rope and get to the next stone. Double jump over the snake. (Try
to jump over the snake before it eats the butterfly so that it is preoccupied
making it easier for you to jump over the snake.) Climb up and proceed right.
Double jump to the first rope and jump to the second rope making it past the
snakes... and land on the boulder that tries to eat you ;) Proceed right. Swim
across and proceed right. (When the shadows come down upon you, press down and
they won't get you). Repeat what is in red twice. The light will kill the
shadows that were stalking you. Proceed right. Walk right until you are
infront of the wall. Climb up the wall on the first platform. Go right and
jump onto the snakes tail. The snake falls down. Proceed right. Go infront of
the glowing yellow thing and jump 3 or 4 times so lots of butterflies pop out.
(Try not to get to close, or you will get eaten. Do this by waiting for the
snake to eat a butterfly and then try jumping up and down. ) Go left, left
again, and climb the wall to the top. Go right, right again. Wait for the
snake closest to you to eat a butterfly, then jump across the gap proceeding
right. Jump onto the rope. Let the second snake eat the butterfly, then move
right. Climb the wall and push the boulders. (I think I would have been dead
after that fall :) ) Swing from left to right grabbing the stick. Swim right
until you reach land. Proceed right. Climb the tree with the vines. Jump to
the right killing the shadow creature. You just made a new friend. "Amigo"

Level 3: Magic Lake


Swim to the bottom. Touch the yellow goo and swim right. Keep swimming right,
go through the maze. Get on to land. You got some new moves. By holding /\,
Andy generates a ball of energy to make things grow or crumble. By holding O,
Andy generates a ball of energy just to destroy enemies with. (Both energy
balls destroy enemies, /\ is the strongest.) Destroy the rocks and proceed
right. Push the seed to the right corner. Crouch down and press /\. Watch it
grow. Climb the tree and proceed right. Move the seed into the water. Make the
seed grow. Climb the wall and jump on to the tree. Proceed right. Go into the
water. Swim down. Avoid the jellyfish for they can suck you up. Proceed right.
Go through the maze. Avoid the things sticking out from the wall for they can
also kill you. Proceed downward. Go through the maze. (Watch out for the
things on the wall that have tentacles. Wait until they withdraw their
tentacles. Also, make sure you go up for air so you won't drown!) Proceed
left. Keep moving left and then down. Go through the maze. Proceed right. Move
right and then swim up. Swim up, then go left. You have one of two options.
You can go down and then left to get some air, or you can continue going up.
Proceed up through the maze. Get some air if you haven't already done so and
swim near the jellyfish so the snake doesn't get you. Proceed right. Keep
moving right. Get on the ground and proceed right. Shoot the snake closest to
you "/\". Climb down some and shoot and then shoot the snakeat the bottom
right. Now shoot the snake that is above the gap. Move down, (you can play Bug
Wars all you want but I don't suggest it unless your quick.) Continue going
down. Go left, kill the shadows, shoot the snake, and climb up. Move the
boulder and proceed left. Kill the bugs and climb down. Swim to the right.
Push the wall, then swim back left, climb up onto land and climb back up the
wall. Go right. Climb down and shoot the snake. Shoot the seed and move the
seed into the water. Shoot the seeds and jump across. Climb up and jump across
to the next tree. Shoot the tree and move it into the water. Proceed right.
Make the first seed grow and then jump onto the tree. Climb to the middle of
the tree and shoot the other seed making it grow. Jump across to that tree and
then move up. Shoot the snake and move left. Climb the wall and then shoot the
other snake. Then proceed up. Shoot the snakes and shadows and climb your way
up. Once you are on the ground again, proceed left. Climb up the wall. Quickly
move left (don't even try to kill the shadows.) Make the seed grow and climb
up the tree. Proceed left. Kill all shadows. Move left. Kill the shadows
(Watch out for the ones above you.) Climb up and walk across the. Amigo meets
you.

Level 4: Space Island


Kill the shadows and move right x2. Climb down and cross over to the wall.
Proceed right. Kill the bugs and move right. Shoot the stick and jump on to
the rope. Kill the shadows and climb up the ladder. Shoot the tree and move it
right until your next to a wall. Make it grow and climb the tree. Jump to your
left shoot the root so that its shadow won't attack you, then continue to
climb up. Shoot one of the roots and continue going up. Kill the bugs and
continue up. Kill the bugs, then move left, then up, then left again. Climb
up, shoot the bugs and roots. Then make your way left and then drop down. Push
the shadow of the rock. Kill the shadows that were released and then climb
back up. Go right, then move down. Go down and through the gap. Proceed up.
Watch out for the boulders being thrown at you. Proceed up. Jump left and keep
going up. Go right then move up and shoot the shadows. Move left and proceed
up. Watch out for the spiders. Continue climbing up x3.

Level 5: Rivers of Fire


Move right. Kill the monsters. Step on the first gray spot. Move right and
jump over the next gray spot. Proceed right. Jump across and then climb up the
wall on the second jump. Go left, move up, then proceed right. (Watch out for
the green goo from the spider for it will make you slip and fall) Move down,
then right. Kill the spider and proceed right. Kill the top shadow, then one
on the bottom. Then kill the one in the corner. Now jump across to the walls.
Proceed right. Kill the flying shadow. Move up, then go right. Kill all the
monsters. Then go back left. Climb down then go right. Proceed right, then
climb up. Kill the spiders and proceed up. Kill the spiders and the bugs.
Proceed up. Move right. Kill the bug, climb up the wall, jump across and
proceed right. Kill the spider and the flying shadow. Proceed right. Move the
seed to the right and make it grow, then proceed left. Kill the shadow and
proceed left. Climb up, then move right. Climb the tree. Kill the shadows and
proceed left. Then move up. Then move right.

Level 6: Caverns of Doom


Go down and through the hole. Move right and then go down. Make the seed grow
stopping the tree. Move right. Go right and push the button. Then go left and
move down. Proceed right. Shoot the shadow, then move the seed to the right.
Make it grow. Climb the tree and proceed right. Kill the shadows and move
down. Kill the shadows and move by crouching going right. Keep crouching and
get the seed and take it with you back left. Move the seed to the middle where
the log is poking out. Make it grow. Then move right and kill the shadows.

Level 7: Into the Lair


Kill the shadows and proceed right. Kill the shadows, then climb up, and then
move left. Proceed left, power up and shoot the wall of boulders. Proceed
left. TO KILL THIS TYPE OF MONSTER, POWER UP AND SHOOT. YOU MUST DO THE SAME
TO THEIR BRAINS OR THEY WILL MULTIPLY! After you kill the monsters, proceed
right. Kill the two shadows and jump to fall down. Kill the monsters and
proceed right. Kill the shadows and jump across. Land on the pad, climb down,
then move right and landing on that pad. Kill the monsters and move left x2.
(Do not step on the pad in the middle of the screen!)
Climb down, push the pad and make your way back up. Go right and climb up.
Move right. Kill the shadow and move the seed to the middle. Make it grow.
Climb up the tree and kill the shadow. Proceed left. Press the pad. Kill the
shadow. Climb up. Kill all and proceed right. (Do not jump on the pad!) Shoot
the shadow and make your way across. Trust me, it will not be easy unless you
are very quick with the fingers :) ) Proceed right. Kill the bugs. Climb
right, then down. Kill the shadow, press the pad. Climb up and then move left.
Kill the shadows and press the pad.Continue to kill the shadows and climb up,
then move left and jump across. Proceed left. Kill the shadow and push the
pad. Go back right and kill the shadows. Then go push the pad again and then
climb back up. Kill the spiders and proceed left. Continue to go left, making
sure you do not walk on that pad. Continue going left. Climb down and go
right. Then go down, then left, go down, move right, and climb down again.
Shoot the creature as a decoy, then climb left. CLIMB LEFT 3 TIMES, GO \, THEN
UP, AND THEN GO /. ( This took me forever to do reason being... I couldn't see
the other spots to climb :P ) Kill the shadow and proceed left. (It's flying
above you in the top left corner. You can't see anything but it's wings
flapping) You found Whiskey. See the seed above you? Power up and shoot the
ceiling where the seed is and it will fall. Make it grow. Climb the tree. Move
right and push the boulder and then push the pad. Proceed left. Kill the
monster. When they reform, hit the pad and climb back up before the bugs get
you. Proceed left x2. Kill all the monsters and proceed left. Kill all the
monsters and climb up, then move left. (Make sure you step on both pads) You
don't have your powers any more. Jump down. When the monsters shoot at you
(ground) jump up and then run right. (Jump over the shadow on the floor so
that it will not grab you and EAT YOU) Proceed right. Walk across the chain
and proceed right. Jump down and crawl left. Proceed left, push the pad, and
crawl right. Climb up. Then run left 4 screens. Go down the hole.

Final Level: Heart of Darkness


Press /\ until the monsters stomach explodes. Kill the shadows and proceed
right x2. Kill these monsters the same way when you were able to shoot energy
balls.Climb up and proceed right. Kill all of the monsters. Go and hit the
button on the right. Move left and climb back up. Proceed right. Jump across
and proceed right. Kill all the monsters and proceed right. Climb up and
proceed right. Now... you have to collect the magic rock pieces that was
destroyed. Proceed right. Get the piece and move it back to the pink dude.
Proceed right. Climb up. (As soon as you start to crawl right, a shadow or two
will come to get you so be careful.) Crawl right. Kill all the shadows and
climb up and press the button. Jump across then climb up. Press the button,
jump across, and get the piece and lets start making our way back down. Walk
right and make the stone fall. Fall down with the stone. Stand on the button
and shoot the piece out of the screen. Climb down, crawl left. Crawl right,
and walk the piece to the right and make the piece. Fall down with the piece
and then walk the stone left. Move it to the pink dude. Go right, climb back
up. Crawl left. Climb up, move right, and jump across. Climb up, jump across,
and proceed left. Climb up, jump across and go right. Kill the monsters. Move
left. Climb up. Kill the monsters. Push the button. Climb up and push the
button. Proceed right. Shoot the piece. Go left, climb down. Hit the button
and proceed right. Shoot the piece, then go left, and climb up. Go hit the
button and proceed right. Shoot the piece and go climb down. Climb down some
more. Go right, get the piece and then move left. Make the piece fall along
with you. Push the piece over to the right. Keep going right. Make the piece
fall again with you. Go stand on the button and shoot the piece out of the
screen. Go climb down, crawl left. Push the piece down and then push the piece
right. Keep pushing until the piece falls down. Fall down with it and push it
left to the pink dude. Proceed left. Climb down, and move left. Kill the
monsters and proceed left. Kill all the monsters. Jump down the gap and kill
the creature. Proceed right. Kill all of the shadows and proceed right. Kill
all of the monsters and the Master of Darkness appears. Double jump over his
fireballs. Kill all of the monsters and proceed right x?. (Note after you kill
the shadows, you can proceed right everytime!) Get the piece. You watch a CGI
of Andy falling in to the Heart of Darkness. Kill the ghosts.

We completed the Heart of Darkness. Sit back and watch the 3D movie.
