The reading passage explains the golden frog that lives around mountain streams in Panama
is endangered due to a special fungus that infects it and conservationists have proposed some
solutions. However, the lecture casts doubt on this view.

In the reading passage, the author discusses three of the solution. First, scientists thought to
introduce a type of bacterium that produces a chemical that can kill fungal cells. Second, to
breed golden frogs in captivity far to develop disease and then RELEASE* them in the wild to
replenish frogs that have died due to this fungus disease. Third, it is the natural defense that
has the golden frog to increase its temperature on its own without human intervention to
slow down the growth of the fungus.

The listening passage challenges the conclusion in the reading passage. Professor says that
the first solution did not work because the bacterium produces the chemical only during its
early development, thus this solution was temporary. The second solution did not also work
because the NEWLY** RELEASED GOLDEN FROGS will be rapidly infected when they will be
in the wild. Finally, the last solution was not effective because the golden frogs use a lot of
energy to heat their bodies. As a result, they can become really weak to protect themselves
against this fungus, and also, they can die due to the weakness.
