4 Adaptive and Assistive Technology - facilitate the use of adaptive and assistive
technologies to support individual student learning needs.
_____________________________________________________________________

The artifact is an Assistive Technology Implementation Plan I created in course ITEC

7445. I worked with a student who receives Special Education services, their parents,
and the Special Education Sheltered Instruction Teacher in the creation of this plan.
The student’s family asked for him to participate in my classroom under my
instruction to gain access to a general education environment. I proposed the use of
AT, Google Keep, to see if this would help the student navigate their learning
environment and everyday life. The family agreed to trying the implementation.

The artifact demonstrates the facilitation of assistive technologies through the use of
Google Keep. I facilitated Google Keep by helping the student log important
information about events or where to be and when to be somewhere to support the
individual student’s learning needs. The artifact demonstrates AT supporting
individual student learning needs as the AT improved slightly the student’s ability to
recall which class to go to throughout the day.

In creating this artifact, I learned how crucial it is to communicate and collaborate for
strategies to support the learner and determine potential AT devices/tools for student
learning. In order to improve this artifact, I would have focused more on facilitating
voice recordings between the student and their teachers. I think voice logs would have
been an improvement to written logs in Google Keep for this student and their
cognitive needs.

The artifact improved student learning since the AT helped the student recall more.
The impact could be assessed by determining how many of the classes the student was
able to make it to successfully on their own. The impact could also be assessed by
analyzing how many assignments the student completed as well as how many the
student completed correctly.
