After the invasion of Mohammad bin Qasim Sindh is called the BAB E
ISLAM (the gate way of Islam)
Why did the traditional trade routes to the Arabian sea become
unsafe?
In the eighth century, fear of pirates had prevented Arab Merchants
from traveling across the Arabian sea.
The ancient traditional trade routes passing through Indian waters were
un safe until Mohammad Bin Qasim conquered Sindh.
Traditional sea routes became safe: 3min
1) Muslim rule started in the subcontinent after Mohammad bin Qasim’s
conquest of Sindh and Multan. He brought peace and security to the region.

2) Muslim rulers’ treatment and policies towards non-Muslims,—eventually


succeeded in bringing about peace, stability, and religious harmony.

3) This won the locals over. Buddhists and Shudras were happy about the new
religion, a new way of life, and willingly converted.
The establishment of Islam/Trade and culture in
the subcontinent was due to 3 elements.
1. Arab Traders.
2. Sufis and saints
3. Turks from Central Asia.
ARAB TRADERS: 3min
1) The Arabs renewed their trade throughout this area .They sailed
through the Persian gulf and the Arabian sea entering the Subcontinent
from the West.

2) They ruled Sindh and part of Panjab.

3) Trade flourished and ideas on learning and were exchanged.

4) Arabs had trade and business relations with the
inhabitants of subcontinents.
5) Along with trading the Arabs also preached about
Islam. Its being said that, their humble behavior was
one of the reason that why people in subcontinent
converted to Islam.
2. Sufi Saints: 3min
1. Many Sufi saints from Islamic west Asia arrived on the
subcontinent during that time and made their homes here.
2. Under the influence of the Sufi saints and because of
the Arabs fair governance in Sindh, folks of people
willingly converted to Islam.
3. This was the first wave of Islamic influence on the
subcontinent.
3) Turks from central Asia 3min
1.Muslim rule was further strengthened and consolidated by the Muslim Turks from
central Asia.
2.The Turk warriors had already driven away non-Muslims from Arabia and Persia
into Afghanistan and the north-western parts of Pakistan.

3.They invaded these regions as well and attempted to convert people to Islam.

4.The Muslims from Central Asia decided to enter the subcontinent because they had
heard of the riches and they also wanted to establish Muslim rule in India.

5.The other wave of Islamic influence in India came from the
North in the 10th century.
6.The Muslim troops of Central Asia had gradually become
strong now they sought to spread Islam throughout the sub
continent.
What attracted Central Asians to India?
The fabled wealth of Indian states also attracted their attention
Therefore, they made their way to India.
