Differentiated Lesson Planning

Using the resources provided in this week’s lesson, identify a content and ELA standard. Write a
content language objective reflecting both the content and how students will learn the material.
Then identify the chosen strategy and outline how the students would benefit from your use of
each component of a BDA lesson.

Content Standard:

8.C2.2 Explain specific roles, rights and responsibilities of people in a society.

ELA Standard:(Reading/Writing element you are covering)

Conduct short research projects to answer a question (including a self‐generated question),

drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions that allow for
multiple avenues of exploration. (6‐8.WHST.7)

Content Language Objective: (A,B,C,D)

(what will they learn and how will they demonstrate their understanding)

By the end of class students will be able to support or refute claims about the Boston Massacre using

evidence from at least 2 primary sources and 2 secondary sources during a Socratic seminar.

Using the BDA framework, identify the reading strategy you would focus on before, during, and
after a lesson. Then justify the benefit of your choices.
Chosen Strategy How Will Students Benefit?

Before Generate questions — think, Students will generate their

pair, share own questions in order to
guide their own reading as
well as their peers’ reading.
This also will help build
relevance to students
because the questions will
reflect what aspects of the
topic they are most interested
in. If the students have
trouble thinking about a
question they can work with
their peer to generate one
together.

During Engage with the text — By making annotations

graphic organizer students will be able to break
down the text, identify key
pieces of information that
help aid their response to
their self generated questions
(their thesis). The graphic
organizer is a visual way for
students to organize their
thoughts and this information.

After respond through discussion the class discussion will

make the topic more
memorable and help students
retain the information.
Additionally, it will help
students understand the topic
through a variety of different
lenses.
