INTRODUCTION
In recent years, business analytics has emerged as one of the most well-known
industries in the 4.0 era in Vietnam. Although still new and unique, it has captured the
attention of many people. In world of big data, multinational companies increasingly
require the skills of talented business analysts to deliver data models, insights and
strategic solutions. Under such circumstances, business analytics students with formal
university training will have a huge advantage when competing in the labor market. In
this report, let's find out what opportunities and challenges BA students in Vietnam will
face.
SECTION 1: RELEVANT JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR BA STUDENTS IN FPT
SOFTWARE AND OTHER COMPANIES/ ORGANIZATIONS IN VIETNAM

1. Job opportunities in FPT Software

In "FSOFT Tour", leading experts of FPT had profound sharings to help students
orient their career and the path to becoming a professional programmer. At the same
time, students can learn about internships, work, and many attractive training programs at
FPT Software.

According to FPT, students majoring in Business nalytics in particular, and

information technology & economics in general, will be able to work in a variety of
positions, including:

+ Developer + Project Manager

Students can also refer to the career path for BA created by the International
Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) for those interested in entering this growing
profession. It also offers guidance for BAs seeking senior positions and includes
emerging roles in business architecture and business intelligence.

Figure 2: IIBA’s BA Career Road Map

4
The BA Career Road Map recognizes experience outside of the realm of
business analysis. If you have experience as a subject matter expert (e.g.
insurance, finance, health care), or, software testing, or project management or
sales—just to name a few—then your transferable skills are an important
foundation for business analysis.
Once you have a few years of experience in business analysis, agile
projects, systems analysis, and are Certification of Competency in Business
Analysis™ (CCBA®) certified, moving to a senior role is definitely a good
option. If you currently hold a senior position and the CBAP® designation, there
are opportunities for skill and career development.
Four role families in IIBA’s BA Career Path:
 Business Focused Role Families
 IT Analyst Role Families
 BA Leadership
 Enterprise Level Roles
It is possible to advance to a "C" level position from various BA positions.

b. Internships
Specifically, FPT offers two types of internships:
- Training – Fresher: Training program to supplement knowledge about a
programming language/technology in 2-5 months using a classroom model.
Following the course, students can participate in real-world projects and be
compensated based on their abilities.
- On Job Training/ Junior: Work and study on actual projects under the direct
supervision of PM- DEV- TESTs and earn a salary based on ability.
FPT internship positions prioritize IT-related students with good grades and
foreign language communication skills. Candidates who pass the Entry Test,
interview, or Placement test will be eligible for scholarships, detailed instruction
in technology, participation in genuine projects with experts, perfecting soft skills
and foreign languages. Furthermore, candidates are committed to supporting
employment after the course and receive an attractive training/internship fee.
Salary after training promises up to 11-15 million/month.

2. Job opportunities in companies/ organizations in Vietnam

Due to the current shortage of human resources in the market, not only FPT
but also many large companies and enterprises in Vietnam are actively seeking
business analysts, such as: Viettel, Shopee, etc.

5
Viettel Data Governance Department is a pioneer in the fields of Big
Data Technologies, Data Science and Data Administration. To help Viettel Big
Data Analytics Center - DAC grow, the company is always looking for young
business analysts with attractive salaries ranging from $500 to $1,000 USD.
Viettel is willing to pay up to 3000 USD for senior business analysts.

Figure 3: Business analyst recruitment

According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), demand for business
analytics personnel will be six times higher in 2020 than it was five years ago.
This rate will continue to rise in the next five years as the amount of human-
generated data grows. Therefore, those interested in BA have numerous job
opportunities and opportunities for advancement. Experts consider Vietnam's Big
Data market to be the most promising in Asia.
According to TopDev statistics, A business analyst's annual salary
figure in Vietnam exceeds 470 million per year. This level of income is
significantly higher than the average, making data analysis a highly lucrative and
appealing profession.

SECTION 2: SKILLS REQUIREMENT FOR BUSINESS ANALYTICS STUDENTS

1. Employers' top priorities

Many job opportunities after graduation also mean that BA students

need to hone themselves with many necessary skills to meet the needs of
employers.
These are the factors that employers will consider when looking for
young candidates, according to FPT experts:

6
4%
knowledge

26%
Continuous learning
skills
Responsibility

Proactive 70% attitude

Figure 4: Employers' top priorities 1

Work attitude is critical because it has a direct impact on job performance.

Professionalism can be improved through company training, but a positive attitude
is required. Even if you have an excellent diploma, you are still a new member of
the corporate environment, so a forward-thinking attitude and a willingness to
learn are essential. Lack of confidence and apprehension will make it difficult for
you to demonstrate your abilities at work.

Furthermore, the following factors are a big plus for new graduates:

Foreign International
Education Experience Soft skills
Language certificate
• University/GPA • English/ • Internship/work • Communication • OCA/ ISQB/
• Knowledge base Japanese... • Demo (Github/ • Working group AWS..
• Communication Portfolio) •PMP/ CISSP/
skill CCNA...

Figure 5: Employers' top priorities 2

2. Skill set

Even if attitude is 70% of the important factor, students still need to

develop 4% of their knowledge and 26% of their abilities while in college.
Students need several other skills to become a good business analyst, but here are
5 of the most basic and necessary skills for the first step:

7
Figure 6: Business Analyst’s Skill Set
SECTION 3: MY CAREER TARGET AND STUDY PLAN
Although BA is very interesting and has many job opportunities, I am not sure if I
will be able to pursue it or not. A Business Analyst must work with a large amount of
data which is not my strong suit. At the same time, I am more interested in business.
However, I am still unable to make an informed decision about the career I wish to
pursue. As a result, in my third year of university, I will gain experience as a BA intern
and online business owner in order to find the best career for me. This is my study and
work plan within 2 years to achieve my career objectives:
1. Gain business experience by working part-time in positions such as sales and
service.
2. Compile the knowledge and skills required of a business analyst
3. Obtain the required certifications
4. Apply for internships as a business analyst in companies.

8
CONCLUSION
This report shows that Business Analytics is a rapidly growing industry with
numerous career opportunities with attractive income in companies/ organizations in
Vietnam. However, in order to enter a career path that is ahead of the curve and master
this technology, you must have a quality education background in addition to a flexible
thinking mind like an advanced machine, full of professional knowledge and skills to
apply in the workplace. As a result, students in college must make every effort to study
and practice skills.
