government and a parliamentary system in the form of
a constitutional monarchy. It is situated close to China,
South Korea, and Russia at the westernmost point of the
Pacific Ocean, east of the Sea of Japan. Japan is an
archipelago since it has 6,852 islands. The majority of
the islands that make up Japan are mountainous, and
some are volcanic. Mount Fuji is the tallest mountain in
Japan. With 128 million people, Japan is the tenth most
populous nation in the world.
