Compare and contrast.

The two text are arguably different. The first text is a narrative written text and the second text is
a visual auditory text with the title “Matilda the crunch ball” which was published by Bean
Delphinski. Both texts explore the theme of how insensitive adults make life miserable for
children under their care. I will compare the theme and characters and I will contrast the
techniques used and the
In terms of theme the two text have been able capture on the theme insensitivity in adults and
this has been portrayed in the first text where Aunt peg is the insensitive adult portrayed and this
has been showed in the fifth paragraph where the children were now mournful due to the torture
that Aunt peg had inflicted on them. The theme is also shown in the 2nd text in the ………..
minute where the angry Ms Trunchball forced candy out of a kids mouth and threw him out of the
window with no emotions, both these texts have painted how insensitive adults cause misery to
children.
Both texts have painted the insensitive adults as rigid disciplinarians in order to portray how
insensitive adults are a burden to children emotionally and even physically. In the written text, the
narrator says in third paragraph that Aunt peg had eyes on sticks which means that she was always
caning them every time she spotted them in mistakes and this is also painted for ms Trunchball
where she would make students go into the chokey in between the minutes of 2:44 and 2:52 and
she would not care and even leave them for the entire day. This painting of the adults has strict
disciplinarians to make the audience realize the insensitivity of the adults towards the children.
The written text has used linguistic techniques such as rhyme in the first sentence of the second
paragraph to get the bad traits of Aunt Peg in the audiences head and in the visual text camera
techniques such as the shoulder view in minute 1:38 to show the dominance of miss Trunch bull to
Amanda which portrays how ms Trunchball as the insensitive adult asserts dominance over the
school going children and prolly feels good about it.
Both texts have managed to use different features and techniques and they are obviously
different in form and structure but they still communicate on the theme of insensitive adults
clearly and fulfill the purpose of change of perspective for the adults according to the children.
