TITLE: Conditions necessary for germination

AIM: To investigate the conditions necessary for germination to occur.

APPARATUS: 24 red bean seeds, cotton, water, oil, 4 100ml beakers.

DRAWING___: Showing layout of apparatus.

METHOD:

Eighteen red bean seeds were soaked in water for 24 hours and then placed in groups of three
into four beakers were labeled A, B, C and D. Moist cotton was placed into beaker A and this
was left at room temperature for three days while moist cotton was placed into beaker B and it
was then left in the refrigerator for three days. Water was boiled and cooled and placed into
beaker C, three boiled seeds were placed into it then a thin layer of oil was placed on the surface
of the water, and it was then left at room temperature for three days. Finally, dry cotton was
added to beaker D, three dry seeds were placed in it and it was then left for three days at room
temperature. The changes in each set of seeds were observed and recorded at the end of three
days.
