Ceramics

A ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic, solid material comprising


metal, non-metal or metalloid atoms primarily held in ionic and
covalent bonds

Ceramics are comprised at least two elements provided one of them


is a non-metal and the other element(s) may be metal(s) or another
non-metallic elemental solid

E.g. Metal and nonmetal: MgO; and nonmetal: SiO2; Metal and
NMES: TiC, ZrB2, MoSi2;
Two NMES : SiC, Si3N4;
Other non-binary ceramics: BaTiO3, YBa2Cu3O7, PbZrO3;
