Watch the episode till the opening credits without the sound. Students try to guess what they were
talking about, write their dialogues. Then we watch once again with the sound.

Right before the Chandler vs. Ross arm wrestling competition, pause and get the students predict
what will happen next, who will win.

As a post-watching activity you can give quotes from the episode and ask the students who said
what.

Say who said it (with answers):

 Who you think would win in a fight, Catwoman or Supergirl? - Monica

 You’re the funniest man here in a bunny costume his wife made him wear. - Ross
 - Oh, really? You think you’re stronger? Why don’t you prove it? - Chandler
- Oh, I’ll prove it, I’ll prove it like a theorem! - Ross
 Hey, Monica! People came to see a fight, let’s give them what they came for. - Joey
 I love second grade! It’s so much better than the first grade, you know, and definitely better
than third grade. – Phoebe
 I had to give the kid 50 bucks to stop him crying. - Rachel

As another post-viewing activity here is a dialogue transcript from the episode for students to act
out. The possible unknown words are explained.

Monica: Hey Joey?
Joey: Yeah.
Monica: You read comic books, right?
Joey: Exclusively.
Monica: Who do you think would win in a fight, Catwoman or Supergirl?
Joey: Catwoman, hands down.
Monica: Yeah…
Joey: But between you and Phoebe, I’d have to give the edge to Phoebe.
Monica: What?! Really?!
Joey: Are you kiddin’? Phoebe lived on the street. Okay? Plus, she’s got this crazy temper. She—
She’s not standing right behind me, is she?
Monica: No, you’re fine. (Joey checks anyway.) All right, well, do you think I could take Rachel?
Joey: I’m not sure.
Monica: What?! Come on I am tough! Punch me right here! (Pointing at her stomach) As hard as
you can!
Joey: Will you relax?! What are you taking this so seriously for? It doesn’t matter.
Monica: Oh really? Okay? Well, what would you say if I told you that, y’know, Ross or Chandler
could beat you up?
Joey: I would say, "Woman, please!"

Exclusively = only edge - advantage
hands down - easily and without any doubt what for = why
