PHILIPPINE DOH RECORDED THE COUNTRY’S FOURTH MONKEYPOX CASE

On Monday, August 22, 2022, the Department of Health then detected another case of the Monkeypox
of a worker from Iloilo city. The health authorities said that the 25 year old individual has no travel
history from and to the countries that have confirmed cases. The patient is under isolation and is
currently being treated in the hospital.

The authorities already contacted and identified the 14 close contacts of the patient which includes the
six people that are already in the isolation, the person that is in-charge in taking care of the patient, and
a health worker on self-monitoring.

The first ever confirmed case of the Monkeypox was a Filipino who arrived from abroad last July 19,
2022. The infected person had a travel history from the country which already had confirmed
Monkeypox cases. After weeks of being isolated, the patient was discharged since August 6.

On August 19, 2022, two more individuals were then detected with the Monkeypox virus. Both had
recent travel history to a country that had confirmed cases of the said virus as well. Both of the patients
are in the midst of their home isolation.

While the contact tracing is still ongoing as per the DOH, it also added that the four confirmed infected
patients of the Monkeypox virus are not related to each other.
